Jason's review on this is amazing. I feel seen hah. My top 3 are the first 3 - anthem part 3, dance with me, and fell in love. First ballot hall of fame bangers.
Didn't care much for California, thought Nine was pretty good, but this album really just hammers home how much peak blink-182 is Tom's voice
Agreed. While my favorite blink song is Adams Song, their best songs are usually shared vocals (Stockholm/feeling this/pathetic etc). But the majority of what is Blink is Toms voice. When people for whatever reason chose to love "where are yu and i'm so sarry" that was them defining the great line*
I stopped deffending EDGING a long time ago, but I really think if it had not been released a year ago people would be loving it right now. I think it would work better at the beggining of the album though.
I think Edging is fine mixed in with all the stronger tracks but, on its own a year earlier, it was a glimpse into what the album could have been like had they just mailed it in and tried to coast on nostalgia. Instead the album rips and Edging is just an OK track amongst some surprisingly thoughtfully-crafted and passionately-delivered Blink jams.
Edging was an instant classic blink song to me. That pre-chorus is dripping in nostagia, the chorus is a massive singalong, and the verse lyrics are delivered perfectly and have so much attitude and edge. Both Tom and Mark play into their respective personas perfectly without rehashing any musical territory. I understand that the mid-tempo shuffle beat and cheesy lyrics may turn some people off, but I still get the biggest dumbest grin when the chorus comes on.
writing my review for this is slowly convincing me that Other Side is the best song on here. just that classic Mark shit through and through
Put this on in the car and blasted it driving to and from Orlando. Definitely recommend giving it a listen on a drive. Probably the best any album has sounded in my car. The production is ridiculous.
Lmao at that first review claiming this album doesn't work but somehow Neighborhoods works for them and is "one of their favorites"? I'm calling bs on that one.
Founding line up? TOYPAJ released in 2000? What happened to the editorial standards at Rolling Stone?
Childhood is my early favorite but absolutely in love with this album childhood just resonates so hard
