I love when something I’m listening to hits so right that it makes me actually laugh out loud, and there were multiple instances of that here. Going back to the well of Bad News, when that chorus went half time I lost it
Turpentine made me think “is pronouncing ‘turpentine’ two different ways in one song maybe Tom’s most egregious pronunciation fumble of all time?” and then he jokes about it at the end lmao. Good enough for me
snooped around for the teases out of curiosity. sprawling, diverse, and hard hitting definitely nails it.
Random thoughts on second listen: Tom and Mark singing the same melody in 2 different time signatures in Turpentine is an absolute chef’s kiss. Tom’s verse melody sounds sort of Midwest emo to me… ? The synths in the bridge and last chorus of WWWY are transcendent.
To think that I've gone from feeling embarrassed by their new music (Edging) a year ago to being as proud as I am of this album today. Still don't like Edging but I like almost every other song on here. Anthem Part 3, Dance With Me, Terrified, More Than You Know, Turpentine and so much in between. Their best album since Untitled withoutadoubt!
On a big blink kick now anyone have any links to decent pressings of dude ranch, enema, untitled and neighborhoods that aren’t just standard black and aren’t a million dollars?
What Tom said about side projects was so right there’s no need to go outside of blink to achieve any experiments musically, lyrically, or wherever he or any other band member needed to go. They are at the point in their lives/career where blink can explore those sounds and not only explore… but dominate. There is so much more how and why and childhood/adulthood emotion that goes into hearing this record but my basic instincts give this all my thumbs, fingers and toes - up!
Sitting on my couch with headphones on and feeling such a strange mix of emotions listening to this tonight. Reflecting on how much time has passed and all the experiences I've had since I used to mow my mom's lawn as a teen listening to the Mark, Tom, and Travis show. I am so happy with how this album turned out.
I certainly felt the run time a bit - obviously 44 minutes is not that long, but when you’re switching songs 17 times it can feel like the minutes are just stacking. Despite liking most of this enough to not notice, the songs I didn’t care much for kinda brought that to mind While songs like Fell In Love and MTYN worked even better for me in context of the record, Edging made even less sense in the same respect. The two songs on either side of it also kinda lost me, making a real dip right in the middle of the record
Wow. This album has exceeded my expectations. So many great songs. This album is class. Can’t wait for my record to arrive and give it so many spins.
Last thing I’ll say about it tonight is an emphatic Hell Yeah to the Siouxsie and the Banshees line. Mark is no stranger to name dropping in his lyrics and it doesn’t always work for me - maybe it’s just because it’s October and that’s prime Siouxsie szn, but hearing that line made me go “YUP”
Absolutely loving this. I think the only thing that didn't hit me immediately was Fell in Love (didn't listen to it as a single), but it was catchy. Also, is there a different mix on Edging? It really threw me, I heard some weirdness in the chorus. The original single on Spotify sounds way better. I might sub it out for the single version on future listens.
Man what a week the next week is gonna be. Gonna have both this and the new Green Day single on repeat when that drops next week on Tuesday
Has anybody here gotten their vinyl yet? Wondering if there are any "goodies" in there or if it's just the disc in a sleeve? Thinking about picking it up on my way home from work.
Doubtful. With the set they played tonight and the 2024 stadium tour they announced at the show they will be just fine.
