This is so much closer to the album I wanted to hear from Matt, Mark, and Travis. I'm real happy with this
The only songs I'm still not huge on are BIOMY and I Really Wish I Hated You. Happy Days works better for me in the context of the album. Ransom start out kinda not great with the autotune but the strong second half saved it. My Early Favorites are Black Rain, No Heart To Speak Of, On Some Emo Shit, and Remember To Forget Me.
No Heart is still my favorite song, but the bridge of Emo Shit is probably my favorite moment on here
Aside for the some reason stellar vocal performances and the even better drumming than usual (jfc Travis hihowareyou) I am having a hard time understanding why people are so stoked about this album.
It’s good, I’m not even going to pretend it isn’t. But I guess I expected a more exciting album after the reactions in the threads. Darkside still slaps so there’s that.
I dig this album but I’d for sure love to see them go even more towards a post-punk/experimental sound
First: Rabbit Hole for life. It's the only track on Cali where the gang vocals and whoa's actually work, the lyrics are appropriate for the age of the members in the band, and the bass work throughout the track is supreme. Second: It would have been cool if NINE was the first album they released with Matt.
Listened to this twice while mowing my lawn yesterday. I absolutely love about every other song on here. I love the BIOMY to GD sequence, also the best standouts that I remember are Heaven, Black Rain, and Ransom. After listening to I Really Wish I Hated You when it released as a single, I was meh on it but for some reason now, it's been constantly stuck in my head
Yeah, I wasn’t really into IRWIHY when it came out but I like it more within the album and then seeing them play it live on the Spotify thing made me like it more. I still really enjoy BIOMY a lot too. Still not sure I would’ve picked those songs as singles though. Happy Days might be my least favorite track on the album too.
I like this a lot more than I thought I would. I really wish I hated you, on some emo shit, hungover you, no heart to speak of are my early favorites.
Yes, I love this album. I woke up and the first thing I wanted to do was press play on The First Time
You're right. No Heart into Remember is a great way to close things out. My current version is this: - The First Time - Heaven - Darkside - Generational Divide - Black Rain - Pin the Grenade - On Some Emo Shit - Hungover You - No Heart to Speak Of - Remember to Forget Me
