I thought the first couple performanes sounded decent with Matt. He sang and played the older songs decently and was generally in tune. I actually havn't liked any of his performances on the newer material though.. kings of the weekend above being a great example. I still think they should have gotten someone with a nasaly voice to replace Tom.. bc the contrast between the two singers just isn't there anymore. Posture and the Grizzly would have been the best choice.. obviously... if you havn't heard them before go listen to their last record.
I was actually at the first performance with Matt and thought he sounded horrible, I posted about it profusely on AP haha. I figured that he'd get better over time with older Blink songs, but I don't think that has happened.
Yeah I mean, we could start looking up videos from right after Bored To death dropped and compare, but it’s not really worth it lol. It’s all gonna come down to what each of us are hearing. Agree to disagree I guess.
Oh, were you talking about Matt specifically? I guess I don't understand your post. What I am saying is that Blink 182, as a band, no matter who is singing, has never been great live... but that these videos are the worst I have ever heard the band sound
Mark and Matt have very similar voices, although Matt is the better singer and has more range. But Mark's voice really shines when he had someone like Tom who has a very different sounding voice. They blended well together. I think part of the reason why I didn't love the entire +44 album was because Mark's voice gets kind of old after a few songs. And with California being pretty much 100% split between Mark and Matt across ~30 songs, it gets old really quick because their voices are so similar. That's just how I feel about it, at least. Kind of ranting...
They’re just not a good live band for whatever reason. I know people like Matt because he actually wants to be there but I don’t think they’ve ever reached a level higher than “fun” live.
Google Tom trying to sing STFTK on late night shows before saying this is the worst the bands ever sounded.
Completely agree Mostly agree, I loved them the first.... 5-10 times I saw them, but didn't really have as much fun at the most recent shows
If I lived in SoCal, maybe I could understand that haha. I've only seen Blink 5 or 6 times total, I think.
I’ve seen them 8 times now and the latest one was just... boring. I don’t think I’ll see them again unless it’s a special show or they significantly change their show
My favorite conspiracy theory was that the entire thing was faked. That was very popular in the early days.
I’ve seen them more times then I can count. Last show was an absolute blast. Everyone had a great time.
Same. Last time I saw them, it started POOOOOURING rain immediately when they got on stage, and then pouring rain never let up whatsoever. My girlfriend and I (and the entire crowd I guess... ha) were completely soaked, and it was a lot of fun! (Although I was bummed that they didn't play "She's Out Of Her Mind" at that show, which was my fav California song at the time.)
