Yep, at least the California-version of the band, very much trying to reclaim further glory instead of progressing their sound to somewhere new
Probably my biggest issue with California. As much as i love the current lineup, at least with Tom they were progressing their sound and trying new things.
I'll take a rehash of old sounds more modernized up if they tunes are good. For the most part they were on California. The tracks on the previous two releases were not regardless of the (not really very) new things they "tried."
That's like "pick the best song off one album and pit it against the worst on another album" I pick "Anthem" over "Fuck A Dog"
Damn, finally got around to the deluxe edition and these songs just... aren't very good for the most part. Certainly sound like b-sides
That one actually did stand out, mostly for the Matt-forward vocals and mood. I still enjoy 6/8 overall as well
You folks are hard to please. It's a deluxe and we got a bunch more songs than expected. I'm glad they didn't just hold onto these songs for the next album and put them out now. Should give them a good gauge headed into the future.
But they aren't...the are California Deluxe so put your mind at ease. They didn't even go the route of releasing them as a new EP. I'm sure whenever they write again it will be towards something new. Could be a while though if they want to tour or do other bands in between.
It doesn't matter that they're deluxe songs or album songs. If people don't like them, they don't. Doesn't need to be justified by saying they are just bonuses.
Yes I know, I was responding directly to your post where you said "I'm glad they didn't just hold onto these songs for the next album" ...did you forget you brought that up?
They've given you more songs to like or dislike. They didn't feel the need to hold onto songs from the California album cycle. Your taste for Blink songs will determine if you like them or not, but it's not like just released a bunch of Remixes, Live Versions or Low Quality demos. enough bands do just that.
