actually that's a good one. Similar voice.

Or considering everyone struggled with differentiating Skeebs and Marks voices when BTD came out. He sings Marks bits. Have a second guitar and rope in some nuffty to play bass.

Just went through a bad break up and "don't tell me that it's over" just crushed me. Haven't heard that one in years. Made me miss Tom. Still stoked on skiba and think it's the best replacement possible but made me miss that era. Sucks things will never be the same again with mark and Tom. Bromance is dead.

    Random thought:

What would Blink sound like if this had been the lineup the entire time?

  9. well, they probably wouldn't have had "All The Small Things" or "First Date" so there's a good chance that they wouldn't be as popular as they were/are.

Which takes us full circle to the question: What would blink's career trajectory have looked like if they only released Mark singles from 99-03.

They still would have been a really big band. Never huge superstar status but most bands would kill to have a streak of Dammit- WMAA- Adam's Song- The Rock Show

I don't mean to laugh at your pain, but the way you set that up made me laugh. haha.

Maybe not. There also may have been some killer hits that don't exist right now, stuff they haven't thought of yet/won't think of because it's a different time.

I think Max Collins from Eve 6 would be a good fit as well.

Wow great question. I mean it's kind of hard to say because what don't know how much input Mark had with guitar parts so while we would probably still have had Dammit, not sure we would have the WMAA or any other memorable guitar riffs. And All The Small Things really pushed the band into the stratosphere in terms of popularity.

Would have been interesting to see what Mark and Skiba could have come up with in their primes though. Obviously we'd never get the untitled sound which might not have been a bad thing for the health of the band.

Who would be in blink now if over the last 20 years they had exchanged, time by time, all the original members?

I sense a great combination of Matt Skiba, Justin Pierre and Steve, a tanned drummer from Long Island that I just made up.

And I still say that Will Salazar from Fenix TX would have been an excellent Tom replacement.

Hmmm picking just 3 singles from each album:

Enema would have given us: WMAA, Adam's Song and maybe Going Away To College
TOYPAJ would have given us: Rock Show, not sure if you want to count STFTK since Mark still sings on it, but maybe Everytime I Look For You and Roller Coaster maybe.
Untitled: I mean again do we count songs Mark and Tom sing? Otherwise we're looking at Here's Your Letter and Go which aren't strong at all.

The only non Mark single that if Blink never put out that would have hurt the band in terms of popularity would have been All The Small Things in my opinion.

How's this for a question: What do you think would have happened to the band had Tom not made Box Car Racer and didn't get into the more "hardcore" punk sound therefore we don't get the Untitled album but get another Enema/TOYPAJ type album next. Would they have stayed popular, gotten even bigger or started to fall? Do you think the band would have still broken up? Would Tom be this insane today?

That brand of pop punk started to shift in style and popularity around the time of Untitled. So, I think they still would have sold a lot of albums, but not as many as Enema or TOYPAJ. Look at their (popular) peers at that time. Sum 41 and NFG were one year removed from a successful album but started to evolve with Chuck and Catalyst, respectively, shortly after. Everyone was kind of moving towards something a little different, even bands like Good Charlotte were trying out darker tones, even if they weren't radical or anything. I think the Fall Out Boy era might have caused blink's success to plummet if they stuck to the same sound of Enema or TOYPAJ. They'd still be popular, but they'd never match the peak of their success.

How much of the change of that brand of pop punk was because of the Untitled album though? Blink was the #1 pop punk band at that time, I think if they didn't immediately jump into the Untitled album I don't think those other bands would have changed their musical direction. I do agree in that I think maybe not the Blink album after TOYPAJ but the next one would have been closer to the Untitled/Neighborhoods vibe. The guys were getting older and while Mark wanted to continue with the same types of sound from the Enema/TOYPAJ era he probably realized they needed to evolve.

How influential was Tom in respect to the emo-fringe haircut? He wasn't the first, but did he make it so popular?
    So many questions..
