Whether you liked Neighborhoods or not, the recording process of them barely being in the same studio together to bounce ideas off of and not having an outside voice to help them just wasn't a good fit. Mark and Tom aren't John and Paul obviously. But even outside of them recording, simple things like practicing for upcoming tours, Tom was extremely difficult to deal with. Why would Mark and Travis want to go back to that? Why deal with those headaches again or not knowing if a tour or recording session was going to be cancelled because Tom didn't feel like doing it or he had to film a cameo for Independence Day 3?

If California bombed or there was a massive backlash by the entire fan base, then I could see the possibility of Mark and Travis swallowing their pride but why bother now? They don't have to bow down to Tom anymore, they don't need him as sad as that may be.

Tom in 2016 just isn't a good fit for blink.

 

Have you ever seen Tom live? I've seen them live dozens of times from 1996 through Tom's final show with blink... he fucks up songs... he has gotten exponentially worse at singing. It's not opinion... his style has changed... it's an observable fact.

Tom has stated that he can't commit to an album cycle to focus on blink... it's a fact

He can't even commit to Angels n' Airwaves. Haven't played a single show since 2012, can only put out EP's that he puts together a day or two before the scheduled release. He is just done with music and all about aliens and fiction novels for teens.

 

That's not gossip. Tom even said with all the things he had going he couldn't commit to blink.

 

Now you are changing what you said. His style changed yes, whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is an opinion. I haven't seen Tom live since TOYPAJ era, so I can't comment on his live performance.

And saying that he currently cannot commit to a Blink album cycle isn't the same thing as saying that Tom cannot commit to making Blink albums period.

Stop moving the goal posts.

 

Like I said never say never but I do think things are much different the 2nd time compared to the 1st break up.

Yes, over the past few years Tom has been juggling multiple projects which made him unable to write and record a Blink album.

That is not the same thing as saying that Tom, unequivocally, cannot commit to Blink. Just as it would be stupid to say that Matt Skiba cannot commit to Alkaline because, inevitably, Matt will return to Alkaline when his Blink duties are fulfilled.

 

They signed a record contract in December 24, 2014 to go into the studio on January 5, 2015. On December 30, 2014, Tom has his manager email Mark and Travis saying he was out. Those are facts directly from Mark's and Travis' mouth.

I don't know how someone could sign a legal contract and then back out 6 days later if he didn't want to commit to the band. The guy has been pushing recording since 2012.

But yes in your italicized quote you're right. I know I keep saying I want to hit the gym and lose 20 pounds but between work, having a family, and other outside activities that take up my time I can't commit to going to the gym right now. But one day yeah maybe I will....

Those events have never been denied by Tom. Mark and Travis have stuck to that story the whole time. So unless you want to say Mark and Travis are lying I don't know what to tell you.

 

He's making money off of the tour, I'm sure. Probably not as much as if he were actually there, but probably enough to keep him not giving a fuck,

 

At 1:40 I don't understand how this "style" can be considered good by anybody. Unless you think the sentence "unpredictable it was my mistake to stay here" really sounds better as one long unintelligible word. I prefer some level of enunciation when I see a song live personally.

 

Just found out today that Brooks Wackerman did drums on Tom's crappy solo record.

I gotta imagine it'll outsell Neighborhoods some point in September. Neighborhoods has only sold 330k, right? I'm pretty sure California is already at the 275k mark.

California was decent and all, but I can't wait for Tom to come back. I'll take the highs from Neighorhoods over the highs from California any day.
