Ava and Bcr are very different sounds so I don't get that post, and would have loved if there was a Bcr influence.

 

I still feel like about half of the songs on the BCR album could have just been blink songs. And I, Sorrow, There Is, etc.

 

There are spacey elements on untitled but Mark and Travis have also said that Tom was pushing for darker, heavier music since TOYPAJ

 

More so bcr really. Alot of people felt like untitled was bringing a bcr sound to blink.

 

Which resulted in their best album!

 

Eh, we've debated that point over and over...and over haha.

While I give the album credit, I felt like it was clear that Mark and Travis didn't want the band moving that way, leading to the hiatus and eventual breakup. Personally, I woulda rather they stuck to the pop-punk formula and stay together instead of all the crap the band (and their fans) have subsequently gone through.

Travis spoke very highly of the untitled album in his book, he really likes it. I think Mark has spoken about how he was fine writing pop punk and Tom pushed him away from that, for better or worse.

Personally, I think Mark is a solid songwriter, but I'm about done with pop punk as a genre so if that's the playground he's going to stay in that's cool, but ultimately less interesting to me than if he were to venture down new paths sonically. Again, totally fine if he wants to write whatever he wants and I'll always check it out, but if it doesn't grow or change, I'm personally less invested in it.

 

One thing Travis is amazing at is getting his drum sound in and getting everyone to love it. The drumming on untitled may be the best compared to any other album. Travis is super diverse and that album had the most diversity.

if they stayed pop punk they wouldn't have stayed together because Tom would have wanted to make other music..

Either way I think the untitled was worth them breaking up.

I think it looks bad but I think they've always had poor album art aside from the untitled and TOYPAJ.
