Blink has already shown progression, though? Their sound has evolved. Saves the Day showed progression, The Hotelier showed progression, the Wonder Years showed progression. Idk what pop punk has to do with it and I completely understand people wanting to hear something different from the band. I'm not on either side of that argument, though, because I haven't heard the record yet and I can't tell you if I like the "regression/throwback" songs or the weird, new ones better.

Ya absolutely but it's worth taking a second to realize the band isn't making the music for any particular set of fans. They're doing what feels right for them. If that jives with your tastes that's great, but if not, don't knock on the band. I'm not sure if anyone here writes music but I generally do things that I think sound best to me...can't help it if the audience doesn't dig it.

Well, how did you like Bored to Death...cause that's a song I could see on TOYPAJ. It's in a similar vein of "give me one good reason" or "anthem pt 2".

That's completely true and I don't think people should shit on them for being sloppy or writing joke songs or whatever, if it's your style, it's your style and if it's not, it's not. Both sides of the coin need to realize that

That's fine. We'll see how well this album performs but if the airplay their single is getting and how well their tour is selling are any indications - the band is as strong as ever without needing a more "progressive" sound.

There is absolutely a negative connotation attached to it with the way it's been used in this thread.

It was fine, I think Mark's voice has changed a bit compared the way I used to like it and I think he and Skiba sound a bit too alike. I prefer the dichotomy between his and Tom's voice playing off of each other moreso than I do he and Skiba. I'm wearily excited for the album and enjoy hearing the comments about fun, loud, fast songs but overall my interest in the band has faded dramatically over the past few years. Still enjoy their old stuff, though.

No one said they "need" a progressive sound, and the tour sales are certainly more based off of the band's legacy than any new song they've made

In the sense that the person who said it would prefer more innovation rather than sounding like something they've released before, sure, but that's a negative opinion rather than the word having inherent negative meaning

  13. I'm a swell guy! haha just kidding.

But yeah, I really just don't care what it sounds like, as long as it's great. I want this lineup to succeed and prove that they don't need Tom in order to achieve success again. If songs sound old, I'll be pumped because that's the Blink I fell in love with. If it sounds completely new, I'm also pumped because it's my favorite band trying something new. In a nutshell, I just want it to be great!

It definitely is because later on he switches to "go over". Classic Mark.

Above all I hope this record is great for all kinds of fans. I definitely prefer when this thread is a circle jerk than when we're all going at each other haha.

  18. To expand on my post, I also really want this to be successful for Matt and John. Bringing new blood into such a huge machine such as Blink-182, could you imagine how much it would SUCK for those two guys especially if the album ended up tanking? I want it to be successful for everybody involved. And if the two songs we've heard so far are any indication, they're on track for a fantastic album cycle/new era.

Oooh. I guess it could make sense if his friends are with her and beckoning him to come over. Or since he's saying the line TO her it's like "My friends are daring me to come over and talk to you" which would make more sense than saying "go"? I dunno. (I realise the discussion has moved on several pages into other things but whatever haha)

I like that second interpretation; it seems to fit best with how he delivers the line.

I think it's important to keep in mind two things, though:
    1. Even though earlier in the thread it was called a grammatical mistake/weird grammar by a few people, it's totally not. Sure, there's this "come over here"/"go over there" binary, and generally speaking you can apply that rule: "I'm going to go over to my friends' house", not "I'm going to come over to my friends' house". But—especially in conversation and casual speech—people use "come over" in the "wrong" context all the time. "Do you want to come over tonight?" "Sure, I'll come over"—where the "rule" would require "Sure, I'll go over." It's very common, and it's not an error but a choice by a native speaker to treat the rules governing the phrase differently. Since so many people do that, there's really nothing objectionable about the line in "Bored to Death."
    2. It's almost definitely a sexual innuendo, which would trump any other explanation no matter how wonky the grammar.

Anyway. Lovely song, stoked for the album.

Using "come" in conversational context can work, though using the present tense when he's speaking to her still throws me off a bit.

Yeah, nothing wrong with being thrown off by it. Just wanted to point out that there's nothing about it inherently incorrect.

Hope we get a new single sometime in June.

It's been 3 weeks since BTD??
