I've always viewed the role of a producer as a mentor of sorts. like someone a band or an artist trusts with helping to create an album. it never bothered me when artists I like have co-writes with their producer or an outside source, for that matter. but I do wonder why some producers get a writing credit and others don't. like all the songs jerry produced for blink, he had to have given suggestions for changes or something along the lines of that. that's what producers are there for. like someone sad in a previous page, it must be legal shizz.

On Stay Together for The Kids there's a piano part in there that I find very interesting and it was played by Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. The song is credited to Tom, Mark and Travis but I don't think they wrote the piano part? But some extra instrumentation throughout their albums (mainly keyboards) are definitely uncredited co-writes.

If you listen to the podcast John has never mentioned he is a co-writer, neither Mark mentioned it. I think John's part is just an idea for the chorus on Bored to Death as it was mentioned in his interview. And he forced Mark, Matt and Travis to write songs fast - one-two songs each day. John: "I go to grab some coffee and Mark you need to write a new idea or a chorus for a new song." So it means his imput was in more of giving advices, shaping directions and forcing guys not to overthink the new ideas.

Sounds like a really fun writing/recording process, hopefully that'll show in the songs. Getting more and more excited for the album.

It is also funny how Tom mentioned about co-writing stuff. If you check the making of The Dreamwalker videos, it's mostly Ilan who wrote multiple instruments and Tom was just sitting, watching and giving the orders. Another funny thing is that he doesn't write the books by himself, he didn't do an animation for the Poet Anderson by himself and so on.

That's half of why that dumb post he made was so arrogant to me, practice what you preach.

I love that song. After attending guitar lessons as a kid and then abandoning guitar for about 2 years, What Went Wrong was the song that made me want to play again and be in a band. Awesome song.

    I am a haunted house. I'm superstitious.

For me they can add Goldmann to the line-up if they feel like it. I couldn't care less. The guy is a passionate producer, loves working with blink and clearly has added A LOT to these recording sessions. Make him the 4th member, the co-writer, producer, whatever. Just keep those good songs coming.

yeah I believe the writing process was similar when john was recording with panic at the disco. brendon said something like they'd only sleep for a couple hours a day and mostly drink coffee and write songs. john has writing credits on like 8 out of the 10 tracks on that album. really cool dude with an interesting work ethic.

I don't know when or how I came across them, but I have this 9-track album of Enema demos, eight that made the album and one instrumental called "Life's So Boring." Anyone else have these demos? Know the story behind them?

What does Mark say in the TMTATS version of Carousel at the end right before the final time Tom says "night alone"? That's something I've always wondered

  14. They're just the demos they recorded before they went into the studio with Jerry Finn to record Enema of the State. There's a little interview I have that kinda talks about the demo versions of "Man Overboard" and "Life's So Boring."

Cool find. It always sounded like "life's so boring" turned into "story of a lonely guy". Sounds like the same bass line and pre chorus. Pretty cool

INTERVIEW: Blink 182's Mark Hoppus Talks All Things 'California' & When To Expect The New Lineup In Australia - Music Feeds

MF: What are some of the songs off the new California track list that you’re most excited to play live?

MH: There’s a song called Cynical that’s really fast, really punk rock. There’s a song called Rabbit Hole that I think sounds like it should’ve been on Enema of the State (1999) that I think people will really love. Bored To Death is obviously a lot of fun to play.

There’s a song called She’s Out Of Her Mind that sounds like it could’ve been on Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (2001). I think people are going to be really happy when they hear the full album. I can’t wait to play the songs live.
