"Dogs Eating Dogs" is a Mark-led song and maybe the best on that EP

It's all preference obviously, but "Heart's All Gone", "MH 04.18.2011", "Kaleidoscope", "Fighting The Gravity", and especially "After Midnight" were good songs. And the worst on that album were "Love Is Dangerous" and "This Is Home"

Now that you mention it, I actually do have a soft spot for "Fighting the Gravity". I really like that song.

Agreed on DED. I've seen alot of love for "Disaster" lately and I don't get it, that song doesn't do anything for me. "Kaleidoscope" and "Heart's All Gone" are my favorites, and agree about those two Tom songs being the weakest. Actually "This Is Home" might be my least favorite blink song ever. And I love Mark's lyrics on the +44 album. I actually still really like most of Neighborhoods though, but feel completely confident that this lineup will surpass that album easily considering the difference in recording process and environment.

I just put on DED to hear one song and ended up listening to the whole thing. It's still a great EP from start to finish for me.

    I am a haunted house. I'm superstitious.

We keep discussing what's good and what's bad about blink, dissing Tom and making ranks, but the truth for me is: I admit I'm such a fanboy that I can always find a good reason to enjoy all of their songs.

I felt the same exact way until Neighborhoods/DED.

Said I'm okay, but I know how to lie.

"Disaster" is my fav from DED and "This Is Home" is one of the very few that I enjoy from Neighborhoods.

Call me crazy, but I think the band can go back to the TOYPAJ and Untutled records and progress their sound from those points. Makes perfect sense too because they were the last really good records they made as a band in the same room. There is no reason for these three to progress forward from an album and EP that were mostly written by someone no longer in the band. And along with that, the remaining members aren't thrilled with those projects (rightfully so imo).

People probably heard a couple fast songs and a few mid tempo songs that were actually good and said it must be Jacket and Untitled inspired. It's just kind of robotic to say, well we can only progress off of these most current records, even though we don't feel inspired by them or enjoy their sound.

I definitely agree. Progression does not have to be completely linear. In order to "progress" their sound (if you want to call it that), they don't have to build off of the sound of DED and Neighborhoods whatsoever. It's that whatever style they are making music in just has to be natural and be what they fully want to make.

Think of their career as a Y shape where TOYPAJ or the untitled record is the point where the road splits. They can dial back the sound to those days and then choose the other route. It wouldn't be a direct linear progression, just a different one. It doesn't necessarily mean they will have regressed if they expand their sound based off of those older records as opposed to the newer ones, especially considering how disappointed they were with the last couple.

  11. If Mark and Travis wanted to do another pop punk album like TOYPAJ, but Tom was always pushing them to do other stuff, then without Tom in the equation, they could go back to what they wanted to do. I don't think it'd be a regression. It's just doing what they always wanted to do. I don't see anything wrong with them trying to go back to that Enema/TOYPAJ sound, as long as it is more mature.

@bradsonemanband and @Mrk_Brdshw you guys get it! It's like how Jesse said with the follow up to Daisy he wanted to go back to the TDAG crossroad and take the other path. Blink coukd do something similar.

  13. Great example.

Really, I don't care if this is a pop punk album or a country album. I just want it to be great and make me stoked to be a Blink fan.

Me either, but I think people are reacting to what the band and those that have songs have said. By both accounts it sounds like punk/pop punk progression. I am down for that.

Well said @bradsonemanband. I'm on board for whatever "era" their new album is similar to, as long as the lyrics show some development.

Aside from that, the real deal breaker for me will be the production. It needs to show some level of allure. I've said it a billion times but the production on Neighborhoods and DED sounds super uninspired to me (except for maybe, on the top of my head, a song like Fighting the Gravity). Feldmann seems like he runs a pretty tight ship and pushes for the best. Add in the fact that he's producing a Blink album, I'm sure he felt a tremendous amount of responsibility to put out something incredible. Fuck, I can't wait to hear what they came up with.

I think regardless, removing the Tom elements from blink pretty much puts them on that path. All of Mark's songs without Tom's influence since the untitled, IMO feel like a progression from that sound.

Heart All Gone when I first heard it threw me back to Dammit/Dude Ranch days, great song.

  19. Didn't Mark say that he was writing a weird country song called "Not For Real" during the Neighborhoods sessions, but he "beat it to death"? I think he said it was a country song. I might be wrong, haha.

  23. I hope we get news or an official announcement this week. Even if they plan on releasing the single in May, hopefully they at least give us a clip with their announcement! I'd be fine with that.

"I just want an announcement" or "I just need a little clip". We sound like drug addicts in withdrawal lol. It's good to be excited about this band again.
