Well of course. I haven't found a blink song 'perfect' since ST

The deluxe tracks are good but aren't anything special. I still spin California a lot and these will hold me over until a new album.

Really interesting that fests like Coachella have asked Box Car to come back and play in recent years. Would love to see it happen

Okay okay I'll throw a positive your way. I'm very pleased with the direction they took with 6/8. I'd love to hear them expand on that sound a little more. I definitely find it to be the most aggressive song they've put out since untitled.

6/8, Last Train Home, Long Lost Feeling and to an extent Bottom Of The Ocean are all pretty much exactly what I want from a Mark/Matt band. I do enjoy California a ton and I don't mind fun at all. It was welcome the last year. But hopefully this is the leaping off point for future music.

For sure. The thing is, they can still make fun songs without sounding over the top poppy. I think cynical is the best example of that. That song is incredibly aggressive, and quite frankly, holds it own in terms of blinks catalog of openers. But at the same time it contains pop punk sensibilities.

Yeah Cynical is perfect for like that end of their sound. I like Good Old Days a lot cause I think it just does a better job at what they were going for on She's Out Of Her Mind. That song is fun but it's just brainless lol. Between the two discs it's real inconsistent cause they just kind of threw everything at the wall to see what would stick, and it was probably smart this cycle cause there's probably something for all kind of blink fans.

I think every alternate tracklist I've seen, nobody has changed the 1-2 of Cynical and Bored. As well they shouldn't haha.

I doubt Coachella asked since even Tom didn't know. Probably Riot Fest or something

BCR is my second favorite Blink-related project ever (including their albums), and I'd be lying if I said that interview didn't kind of get me excited. I doubt a second album will ever actually happen (hell, I still find it kind of hard to believe that Travis actually still talks to Tom), and if it did I have very low expectations of it being good, but I would be legitimately stoked to give it a try.

Also was that interview the first time we've seen Tom talk about new Blink positively?

He probably took in an alien that he named Travis and talks to it regularly.

I think Cynical is probably the only song I really enjoyed off California? The original release had decent stuff, but oof I'm not enjoying the second album at all. It all just seems forced and insincere.

Spent the weekend with the deluxe and can now make my California track list. And I have to say, this is more than I would have asked for from blink 182 in 2017

    Cynical
    Misery
    Bored to Death
    She's Out of Her Mind
    Sober
    Bottom of The Ocean
    No Future
    Don't Mean Anything
    Hey I'm Sorry
    6/8
    Kings of the Weekend
    San Diego
    Last Train Home

Not surprised that Tom is speaking positively about blink. The dude is right about it being the perfect situation for him. The record is doing well and that means he's making money. Pretty sick deal.

Hm. It's pretty obvious to me that BCR was a mainstream radio-friendly Fugazi/Quicksand version. Tom said it best, actually: it was really it. So it's post-hardcore (because Fugazi were pioneers of the genre), but anyway, who cares about tags now?

P.S. Fun fact! Fugazi were the post-hardcore pioneers in Washington, DC and Fugazi is one of the favorite Tom's bands. Naked Raygun were the post-hardcore pioneers in Chicago, and it's one of the favorite Matt's bands.

Box Car Racer is just pop punk with slightly heavier guitars than normal blink. They sound nothing like Fugazi imo. I guess I can see how they were inspired by that stuff, but the end result definitely wasn't post-hardcore. None of the songs on that album are post-hardcore.

Can't believe people don't love "Long Lost Feeling." That's easily the best song of the new ones.

It's got that annoying "Bored To Death"/"Adam's Song" thing again but the production, arrangement, melodies ... all fantastic.

"Long Lost Feeling" is definitely my favorite of the deluxe. It's so nice that it's not filled with the same cliches as a lot of the other songs.

It's kind of like "I Miss You" for me; A lot of simplistic ideas and not too much going on, but it just works really well. I like how Matt's verse echos/mirrors Mark's, they drop out the bass for the second prechorus, and then they sing the higher octave on the second chorus. Just little touches like that are really cool to me.
