I don't think it's as strong a OG California, but some songs are awesome, some are great. some are good. I think I like BOTO? haha, not sure on that one yet. as an extension of California I dig it.

It's a b-sides album. Some parts are decent others not so much. I think its an indication that they can do the more weird and less straightforward pop punk stuff. It's just if they see it as the way to move in the next album.

  6. I feel like they could be more creative.

    relationship songs.
I think this is the most condensed, to-the-point way of explaining their current situation.

My personal verdict on the deluxe: Definitely not as good as California, but better than everyone's initial reactions were giving it credit for. Definitely some weak tracks like "Parking Lot" and "Wildfire". I like some of the others but can understand why they were left off the album ("Good Old Days", "Hey I'm Sorry", "6/8"). My favorites are still "Bottom of the Ocean", "Misery", "Last Train Home", and "Long Lost Feeling". Those were all refreshing because they didn't use all of the same cliches that plagued the rest of the album.

I feel like people were soured on this thing before it came out for some reason. It's not great, but there are a few really good songs on it. Interested in seeing where the go from here. I think they need to concentrate less on "sounding like blink 182" and just making the music they want to make since they got California out of the way.

  8. I'll still jam California, but the deluxe will be put off to the side.

  10. i'm coming around (ish) to "bottom of the ocean" but i still think it's one of their worst songs. it's just a little less cringy for me.

Nothing is worse than All The Small Things. I hate that song hahaha.

  12. i love that song. the synth in it, the vocal harmonies in the last chorus, etc. there's some cool stuff going on underneath that song. the lyrics are dumb, but man, that song is nostalgic overload for me. i still remember watching the making of the video for it on MTV, followed by its premier. "What's My Age Again?" was the first song of theirs that got me super into them, but "All The Small Things" is what pushed me over the edge of loving them to being obsessed with them, haha.

I wonder if the band just released too many songs before the actual album dropped. I mean they released 5 of them and we had heard the 6th (Hey I'm Sorry) since last summer. It only left 5 songs we didn't hear, I'm not counting the live acoustic version of BTD because that's a quick YouTube search to hear it. We basically heard more than half the album before the release date.

Also I do question some of their choices that were released too. Judging from most of the responses in the thread the majority of people liked the songs that weren't released and their least favorites were the ones that were. I wonder if blink had only released one or two songs like Long Lost Feeling or Last Train Home instead of Wildfire and/or Parking Lot if people would have been more receptive going into the album release.

I was gonna say, I like ATST more than a lot of their other songs. It's a dumb pop song, but I feel like it's the perfect pop song

I agree with you there about ATST. It's a perfect simple pop punk song. And I too remember the making of the video of it and how MTV played that video all the freaking time and it was a great video too. It was right at the start of me becoming a blink fan and that song pushed me over the edge too. I can never hate on ATST. In fact I'd probably be a little bummed out if I went to a blink show and they didn't play it.

ATST isn't their worst song at all. Fentoozler, Strings, TV, MH4.18.2011, This is Home... all worse than that

Those are all bad songs, agreed. In fact I think the only one on that list I occasionally stomach is MH. For me, I think it may just be burn out for ATST. When it first came out I liked it and First Date. Now you'll never catch me playing them. I'll sing along when they come on at a bar or something but it never plays in my car lol.

MH is probably my least favorite Blink song ever other than Rabbit Hole.

I get people's connection with it, I never cared for ATST even as 6th grader when it came out. I always just kinda rolled my eyes at it and hoped they didn't play it at concerts haha. I liked the video for it, but I usually thought it was an annoying song. I should have clarified that "I think" it is their worst song rather just saying its their worst song haha.

The lyrics kill it for me, haha. I remember being so amped for it because of the way the band talked about it, and my hopes shattering underneath a "DEAR HEAD, SHUT UP, I CAN'T LISTEN NO MORE."

Rabbit Hole would've been a great second track on OG California coming in right after Cynical.

  25. haha that's how i have it on my version of California that I made!
