Haha nominations are cool, too bad they couldn't win one like the Baja Men did for "Who let the dogs out."

No need to get jealous over the Baha Men cause Power Of Love didn't win a Grammy Huey! ;)

It's because the songs feel lazy. Mark's chorus in 6/8 is seriously So boring. I don't think you can make a chorus MORE uninteresting. It's like they are trying new things but completely tapped out of creativity.

  7. I don't even know... hahaha. It's like we are brainwashed and I'm one of the first ones to come out of it, haha. just kidding.

I still love the hell out of this band, and I always will. It all just has felt different since Neighborhoods.

    7 year break doesn't help

Just look at fall out boys new songs and their break was half that time

I think it basically comes down to the fact that they've had to recalibrate how they function and sound as a band twice now, and really late into their career.

I'm still pissed that I lost to that shitty song "We are the World."

I still get the same feelings I got from 1997-2003 when I hear Bored To Death, Wishing Well, Boxing Day, Cynical. A whole bunch. Can't bother writing.
    But I still get them.
Just not every damn song like I did from 97-03

I kinda selfishly wish they weren't releasing what they have been lately because it devalues the discography as a whole

  14. i think it's the same with everyone's favorite bands. like, the obsessed Brand New fans, for example. haha. but yeah, i may just be overthinking it. i think a big part of the problem for me is that they're mostly good songs, but i feel like they lack that spark that Enema-Untitled had, which may very well just be the lack of Jerry Finn since that was specifically his era with the band.

but man.... "Bored To Death" pumped me the fuck up! still does. that song has everything I'd expect from Blink.

I agree with slim and most of Schooner. I like this version of the band as much as I did before the first hiatus version. It's different, yes. But I like them both for different reasons. I'm surprised Brad as long as I've been here I thought you dug this stuff lol

  16. I dig it, but I don't LOVE it. Some songs I totally do. But I'm just not connecting with a lot of the newer stuff. It's very confusing. Or maybe I'm just in a weird mood right now, hahaha.

I think Jerry Finn was huge. I think I give him more credit than everybody else lol. Blink wasn't joking when they called him the 4th member all those years. Bored To Death, Cynical, Left Alone and San Diego are all real high in their discography for me, Tom or not haha.

    I like 6/8 a lot.

The one thing that bothers me is that I feel like they are not really going into one creative direction. With California, I just don't think it is a good idea to put out an album of serious, experimental songs, of dumb joke songs and of sun shiny pizza skateboardin Enema songs. That is not a direction. It feels like writing new material that has the sound of a best of album. I mean how can San Diego and KOTW be one the SAME album? That is what does not make sense to me.

I've said it time and time again, but I'd feel much more comfortable with an album of songs like SD, LA, LA, 6/8, BTD, etc than with songs like KOTW, etc.

This will always be my fav band, i love most of the new stuff, but I think they should be brave enough to go for one direction instead of trying to emulate the combined sound of all their eras (that is why i hate those song descriptions that say this sounds like untitled meets enema or whatevs..)

Nah man. I totally agree with everything you've been saying. Everything that comes out, I like, but there's only been a small handful of songs that I absolutely love. It's just...the magics not there, or at least isn't the same. I've realized it comes down to a few key things...

I think we are all (maybe subconsciously) burnt out by all of the drama surrounding this band and it seeps into the enjoyment of the music. Breakups, stalling new music, recording in different studios, new member, etc. just wore everyone out. Especially since a big reason we all loved this band used to be the camaraderie.

Also in general, it seems everyone involved has tried writing more complicated music since the Untitled record, but besides Travis, they aren't technically capable musicians... They're trying to make more "meaningful" music while still just using power chords... Tom is even worse about having a limited arsenal. So they're all kind of in a weird spot.

I don't know if anyone agrees, but this is my only rationale of why I don't get pumped about new blink without over analyzing everything to death....and obviously, we're all just older and have different tastes.

I still think the next one will be more cohesive and in line with San Diego and Left Alone thematically. I think what they did for this album was overall smart, definitely not perfect. But I think they had to make some concession to get Matt accepted or it could've been a real ugly bomb. The next album they should definitely have more freedom.

Judging by the sound of Misery, 6/8, and the like maybe lp8 will have what you are looking for. I also would like this. BUT I am also happy with what we got and have no complaints, but maybe I am just a fanboy.

I discovered this band way back when Dude Ranch was being released. Listened to band through every release, change and hiatus. I really, really like California. The band has a new renewed sense of self. I love the confidence, the production of California (kinda a surprise since I didn't know what to expect), and I love the album as a whole thematically. California as a place has a lot of variety to it, so can the album. It all feels very rooted to places, themes and experiences there.
