I just wish they had kept up with the alphabet trend in their album art/names. They forgot the H on Untitled according to Mark, but could've kept it going.

Always thought that was a cool concept.

Something I've been wondering since listening to the lead singer syndrome podcast with the singer from the story of the year talking about working with Feldman. He talks a fair amount about working with Feldman and he's obviously a very hands on producer and you can see his fingerprints all over the records he's produced. He has obviously had a huge influence on the scene as well. In the podcast he said that Feldy is the type of person to say that a idea or part were "bad" and obviously they were a young band at the time and didn't like that about him and the sound being slick and him being kind of controlling. Basically he said that Feldy had veto power over everyone in the band.

Makes me wonder about Blink, not to rehash the Blink/Feldy topic, but if Blink ever said "no" to Feldy about ideas, parts, songs etc. I think they were just so happy to being in the studio every idea seemed like a good idea and you can see that in some songs with them seeming too "crowded" or not allowing them to breathe more(imo) I know they definitely made the record they wanted, but just an interesting topic because Blink is up there in age with Feldy whereas other bands he's worked with have been young and more impressionable and he has helmed more of the power in those records.

@SeeTheLights I listened to that as well, and I definitely think a band like SOTY who recorded with Feldy on their first album would feel uncomfortable putting up too much of a fight in the studio. I mean, the guy is obviously experienced and if you're working with him on your debut, you're going to listen to him. I have to imagine that seasoned musicians like Mark, Matt, and Travis wouldn't suddenly lose their ability to make decisions in the studio. Many people, especially in the subreddit, act like Feldy made all of the decisions for this album and has essentially commandeered the Blink ship. I know the vibes were very positive in the studio and the band was probably more susceptible to Feldy's input because of that, but it's weird to me that some people think that the band wouldn't voice their opinions in the studio. I hope that made sense haha.

No I totally get what you mean and agree with you on that. Like others have said in this thread, the production on California is pretty restrained compared to his projects. I think that thing that bothers me the most about his production is the little things that he adds, not sure what you would call them other than "ear candy" stuff you seen on like all time low records and that sort of thing haha. Like on the podcast he talks about how Feldy was into that sort of thing with computers and was pretty ahead of his time for that.

Pre-Travis Blink: Intro to Damnit (first thing I ever learned to play on guitar)

Enema to DED Blink: Always been a sucker for the drum lead / opener into Always (runner up is the shared vocals at the end of Feeling This)

Current Blink: WHATS THE POINT OF SAYING SORRY NOWWWWW

Just to piggyback on this discussion... I don't doubt that he kind of took control of projects like that where he felt like he needed to get a fairly new band going in a certain direction. I would say with blink, he was probably much more blunt (rather than controlling) in order to get them all to be honest about what they thought about certain parts. The reason I say this is because 311 worked with him for five songs on their latest record and said they loved it. He basically told them things along the lines of "Let's do that same thing, except do it better" rather than "No, let's make the song sound like I want it to". Basically trying to make them more decisive, I guess.

On the other hand, there are certain songs with blink that you can definitely hear his influence just based on his work in Goldfinger on their last few records. So I guess that's a little different.

The small part that Mark has in that song makes the song for me...best part on the entire album!!

I'm going to listen to Cheshire Cat today. Reminds me so much of high school spring break trips to FL. Good times.

Been watching some of their earlier sets on youtube. So cool to see them playing Pathetic/Untitled/Enthused live.

So for your first listen, are you all going to listen to disc 2 on its own first, or treat it like a double album and listen to disc 1 and 2 in succession? I think I'm opting for the latter. I think it will feel more special that way for some reason.

You know what I appreciate about some of my favorite bands last year and this year? They experimented on their new stuff. Sounds like Blink experimented a lot on this Deluxe edition, NFG experimented with 'Makes Me Sick', and TBS, JEW and Yellowcard all experimented with a different sound with their most recent releases and they worked. It is SO refreshing to hear and makes me love these bands all over again. Go music.
