Most annoying AVA song: It Hurts

I like Rebel Girl and Automatic, but I don’t necessarily think they’re anything groundbreaking. It’s pretty easy to whittle down all the Angels albums into one solid album since so many of them are blatant rip offs of each other. Same reason I don’t like California Deluxe. Every song on there feels like a B version to an A version they already put on the main record.

I listened to it a lot when it first came out, trying to force myself to find something in it that I loved, but no dice. And it's aged more and more poorly every year that goes by, haha.

I’m content liking pretty much the whole family of Blink, Ava, BCR, +44, and Simple Creatures ‍

 

This one always gave me the most Blink vibes out of everything they've released. I wouldn't mind if we got one or two similar songs on the new album.

 

Some of his best lyrical whiffs happen in ava no doubt.

We are all that we are is the cheesiest, most derivative, over-the-top attempt at being shitty pop-punk U2. I do love the boundless optimism Tom goes for in AVA though. Hit me at the right time in my life and remains a nostalgic soft spot for me.

 

Well, there isn't, and thank god. Haha, I hate this song so much.

 

Better than anything on Nine and California.

 

Spellbound is one of the Tom’s greatest songs.Loved the video too.

 

If you took off the minute long pointless space intro, "Mercenaries" would be right up there in the top 5 AVA songs

 

I thought Tom’s best AVA vocals were on Love part 1.

Love the verses on The Flight of Apollo.

 

I've given every AvA album a solid try throughout the years, and I'm always just very underwhelmed. The last two albums have a small handful of songs that I genuinely like, but I've never had any reaction to an AvA song that is anything beyond "Oh, that was kinda cool". I never outright hate anything, but I always find myself thinking "If this weren't Tom, I probably wouldn't even listen to it a second time".

 

Any time I get the urge to listen to an AVA song I just throw on "Asthenia" instead.

 

I'm surprised that Tunnels doesn't get more love tbh

 

Both Love albums are trash

 

I love the early AVA albums the love albums got a little stale. Between the two of them there is one pretty good album in there. There are some really rad musical moments in Dream Walker when Illan got involved in writing, but as a whole, the album is very average. I see Lifeforms as the shot of creativity and reminder of his love for punk and being in a band Tom needed to get ready to crush in this new Blink era.

 

If we’re poking fun at the repetitiveness of It Hurts, let’s not forget that blink has those too. “Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!” (one of my fav songs though)
