Today at work talking with a co-worker.

Me: You like blink? I saw that Cheshire Cat sticker on your car.

Co-worker: hell yeah! Well, I like older blink.

Me: what do you mean by older blink?

Co-worker: everything before they went all emo with their smiley face album.

I was instantly thrown back in time where I was looking through peoples myspace pages and seeing “blink-182, but only older blink-182” listed under peoples favorite music section.

 

Lol imagine being elitist about liking Enema Of The State

 

I knew a dude back in high school who only liked Buddha, Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch. This was in 2013 haha

 

An old boss of mine was a huge blink fan until Enema of the State. He also saw Paramore really early in their career and loved All We Know is Falling, but said when Riot came out he was really disappointed, which is almost more absurd to me. But he was maybe ten years older than me and his taste skewed more towards punk than pop so I get where he’s coming from. He gave me a lot of really good 80s and 90s punk recommendations.

 

I have a lot of friends who think Untitled is their worst album. It makes me want to cry.

 

I think that's what proves blink to be so dynamic is that everyone has different favorites. I really latched on to Untitled because it came out at a perfect time in my life. That being said, I don't get the "I don't like any of their newer stuff." That makes it seem like they didn't try to listen or have a blockade up and won't give in because it's "new." I've personally found something to like on every release, even if their earlier stuff is less polished.

 

Everything after Flyswatter sucks. Their peak was when they were called Big Oily Men

 

I'm guessing all the things that make it by far their best album to me are the things they dislike lol.

 

The thing I always loved about Blink was their music would slightly change as I was starting to get into other bands who were similar. Like... Enema came into my life as I was getting into MxPx, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, all the Fat Wreck bands, etc. And then TOYPAJ/Box Car Racer came out when I was starting to get into Vagrant Records bands like Alkaline Trio, Saves The Day, The Get Up Kids, and stuff like Quicksand. And then Untitled came out when I was getting into stuff like Armor For Sleep, Thursday, TBS, Coheed... It was kind of like Blink were on the same musical path as me at the exact same time. That's why they were my favorite band at that time, without question. It was like we were in sync with each other, like they knew exactly what I wanted to hear.

And then they broke up and it all fell off the tracks for me... But man... 1999-2005 Blink were like... MY band.

 

Loving Hoppus in that new Avril song.

 

100% same as me. Even when they broke up it was around the time I was getting into U2 for the first time, and then AVA put out their album that was like a complete rip off of U2. And I ate that shit up.

 

My roommate who is 27 just started listening to blink within the past year and he only likes Cheshire, Dude Ranch, Enema. Won't touch anything else

 

That’s odd because TOYPAJ and Enema are probably their most alike records in my mind.

 

Yea TOYPAJ is very similar to Enema. That’s a weird stance to take.

I know this is just me thinking Tom is coming back but no happy birthday to matt from the blink account? I know I’m full conspiracy theorist and I’ll see myself out..

Wasn’t Skiba and Tom working on something together someone said. Blink was 85% done an album a while ago, so the idea Matt might being out suggests they’d likely have to scrap an almost done album. I want new music.

 

Mark in the Avril song is pretttttttaaaayyyyyyyy good.

 

The whole album is really fun

 

I didn’t realize there were so many Avril fans that were Blink fans.
