there's plenty of great pop punk, MGK is not part of it, it's pretty simple.

Haha this is definitely me. I’m pretty sure I dislike every pop punk band after 2003 save for FOB, MCR, Paramore, Hey Monday and Tonight Alive. If some of those bands even count as pop punk when they started out.

  3. Literally what the last generation said to all of us about the bands we liked. Your pop punk is dad rock now. we old and very uncool

    My pop-punk liking journey:

    Dickies: fuck yeah
    Hurley: fuck yeah
    Atticus: fuck yeah
Youth large local sports league shirt from Goodwill: fuck yeah

    Glamour Kills: Nope.

I know I haven’t really gotten into much of the newer pop punk. Usually stick to the classics lol. I might check out some that were mentioned though.

  7. It was the Knuckle Neck Puck Deep era that I got out on.

Just pre-lockdown I heard people buzzing about Hot Mulligan. They utilize multiple vocalists and remind me of what I liked about those bands who kind of defined what I like in pop punk. I had zero expectations going in

Just that whole era (to me anyways) absolutely lacks at hooky choruses, just not interesting to me at least

It certainly doesn’t help that a large majority of the new school bands have fucked up allegations against members

Just listened to the new MGK song. It is not good. Super bland.

yup. Almost like he’s trying to write his version of Sk8r Boy or something.

I like Sk8r Boy, so they missed the mark with this one.

There’s definitely “good” new pop punk if you look hard enough. Off the top of my head I can think of Meet Me & The Altar, Magnolia Park, Pinkshift, Eat Your Heart Out, Stand Atlantic, Bad Luck, Yours Truly, Action/Adventure, and Hot Milk. If your introduction to new pop punk is the Travis Barker core stuff or MGK stuff, you’re going to have a negative view on a genre that is still producing great bands.

I really didn’t like the new generation of emo/pop punk/screamo/what have you that cropped up in the late 2000s/early to mid 2010s. I really liked Bloody Valentine and Transparent Soul though. Thought they were pretty good songs. Same with good 4 u.

but yeah that emo girl song is baaaad. Mostly because of that chorus, sheesh.

All good and agreed on the new record. I took it as a suggestion for newer pop punk bands. Wasn’t trying to talk down or anything.

I cannot get into Hot Mulligan. I’ve tried and tried, but they’re not for me. I appreciate what they’re doing and I wish I were into them. They’ve just never clicked.
