Which is more than I thought I guess. Still pretty easily my least favorite of the main Blink side projects though

 

I think Mark's vocals are perfect on every track.

 

Lemmings the most underrated blink song by far. Top 10 blink song for me probably

 

Dude ranch is so fun to play on guitar, too

 

How much of the +44/AvA discourse is set based on which dudes songs you prefer?

I’m a Mark guy 100% so I tend to be more forgiving of his stuff overall and also enjoy his side projects more (aside from BCR which is a masterpiece, full stop). But I love +44 more than I’ve loved almost anything by AVA, even if the highs aren’t quite as high as they are with blink.

 

I love both Tom and Mark’s pre-hiatus output a shit ton. I think the Box Car Racer album rules. If you asked me pre-2003 which guy I preferred it would depend on the day. But the +44 record is still my favorite thing anyone in blink has done since untitled and while Skiba blink and Simple Creatures both have clunkers, I find Mark’s body of work since untitled a lot stronger than all but maybe 5 AVA/Neighborhoods/DED Tom songs.

 

Until Blink broke up in 2005 or whenever, I was always drawn more to Tom’s vocals. But AVA really never clicked with me, still hasn’t. And neither did +44. Both projects always felt like something was missing.

 

I really don’t have a preference, I love them as a pair and how their songs feel side by side.

Don’t really have a preference between +44/ava either, i guess ava has the edge if only cuz there’s a coherent concept behind the vibe of the band, whereas +44 only existed cuz they couldnt do Blink.

But there’s also like 4 angels and airwaves albums ive never heard and not really eager to hear

 

I'm a total Tom guy but When Your Heart Stops Beating is better than any AVA album and any blink album since.

 

I love +44's album. I will always think of the last day of 8th grade, summer vacation and the Xbox 360 came out.. Playing Gears of War and Oblivion and the drum beat to "Little Death" playing really late at night and the lyrics "Please, sleep my darling sleeeeep." And playing Xbox I was like "No."

 

So many of these posts just show me how under appreciated Nine is by the overall fan base.

I’ve always enjoyed +44 a lot. California has some good songs too. Deluxe has some ok songs, but not much in terms of stand outs or memorable for me. Maybe this is me an my Mark bias. As much I liked BCR which has some really strong songs, I could only get into a few AvA songs ever. Simple Creatures is ok. None of Travis are really my thing.

Again, Amina’s has some good side projects and some less memorable.

 

I can't believe that Skiba said yesterday there's talk of him and Tom being on the same song, and yet we still got 2 pages having a debate we've had a million times on this forum

At the time of their releases I was enjoying WDNTW a hell of a lot more than +44, but the latter has age much better. I think I'd only rank BCR and Lifeforms above it.

 

Ya I realized that about myself too...mark or tom outside of blink, it just doesn't work for me. I can see the appeal for others though.

 

Ya ill sometimes sit down and play it front to back, so much fun.
The intro to enthused is such a jam.

 

I listened to We Don’t Need to Whisper and I-Empire a lot when they came out but rarely return to them, and then Love I listened to once but by that point they were pretty far away from what I ever wanted to listen to. TDW had a couple moments I returned to and Lifeforms is a really solid listen, so hopefully he’s progressing.

Love the positivity of a “best” list.

 

Def agree on BCR and AVA. First inclination is 155, but chapter 13 is probably best too.

I prefer that first Transplants album over the majority of AVA

 

I side with hoppus on this one - pt.2 is the best song Tom ever wrote.

 

Anthem part 2 is absolutely not the best song Tom ever wrote. If Mark ever said that, I'm shocked.
