Idk why people think a Nine and Lifeforms mix sounds good tbh. That's just creating another Neighborhoods, the records aren't close in sound lol

 

I really don’t know what it will sound like nor do I have any expectations. Haha. I like the new single better than just about anything Tom’s done in decades though so I’m looking forward to it. Wouldn’t be surprised if it resembled Nine more than anything else though.

 

My selfish wish is Lifeforms Pt 2 ft Mark and Travis.
Edging could easily find its place on last AvA album

 

Realistically I think it’s going to sound like everything else Travis produces.

 

As a drummer, I don't like that Travis puts a Big Fat Snare dampening ring on his snare for every song now. Gimme that ring and LIFE in the snare, bud!

 

The intro of Edging is carrying the same flange from Cali and Nine and the overall tempo and rhythm is definitely reminiscent of 21 Guns or whatever that worst song on Lifeforms is. Combining the darker songs from Nine with the catchiness of Lifeforms songs would be great.

Production will 100% sound exactly like Nine, MGK, Avril, and whatever polished punk rock has been in the last 3 years

 

Blink is a pop band though first and foremost, so it doesn’t surprise me. I am also a big proponent of a recording being as crisp as possible (unlike newer Against Me! And Menzingers) but that’s a whole different conversation haha

 

Tom's limits and repetition of his own stuff is the only thing I'm cautious about really. I know it's cynical but I'm assuming everything fresh on the last two AVA albums was a lot of Ilan's being a full contributor

Still though, anticipating a Tom blink album again is nothing I ever foresaw happening for me. Cautiously optimistic

 

It's not the polished production that bothered me with Cali and Nine, it was that it had absolutely no riffs. Every song being a 4 power chord progression made it feel generic. But sprinkle in some classic Tom riffs in and I'm on board.

 

yeah, nothing on either of those albums made me want to pick up my guitar and try to figure out how to play it.

 

I love Tom but this sums up how I feel as well. The guy honestly has such a limited musical skillset and has plagiarized himself a million times.

I understand I'm in the minority (especially on Reddit), but I sincerely do not get how people think he's the "creative" one in the band. I have viewed him as a liability in the band ever since Neighborhoods. But as you said.... cautiously optimistic.

 

Idk. Call me crazy, but the riffs in Edging are no more unique than the ones in Cali and nine. And I love edging

 

Funny enough, I always get Sombrero ads when I'm in this thread, despite not living even remotely close to SD

Skiba has some fun Trio riffs but absolutely none on his blink stuff.

 

Edging is pretty bare boned but there's some interesting guitar work going on there. Like in the chorus, it's essentially three chords (C-F-G), but instead of playing the basic F and G power chords Tom seems to be playing a descending octave progression. It's not a riff and not very prominent, but definitely feels like class Blink.

 

I’d argue there’s songs on cali and nine that have that same feel SOOHM for example is definitely blink sounding

 

I think the bridge of “kings of the weekend” is the only song on California that has a real riff in it that isn’t just the standard “bored to death” type riff.

 

So I couldn't figure out if that 182 Industries profile is legit or a fan account. Would be cool if the label created it.

Supposedly the cryptic stuff that appeared on Reddit (like the NT NA NS TB cryptic stuff) was an account created by the label.
