There was tons of buzz and excitement for California. They didn’t have games or hidden messages but they promoted the hell out of the album with guest performances at iHeart Radio, GMA, a bunch of acoustic shows on BBC Radio and other overseas countries etc. And they did tons of press with a massive 2 year tour playing big festivals.

Nine on the other hand….

 

Nine had a ton of singles/videos, did bleed over into COVID times and there is a likely chance that Mark’s health factor (sick before diagnosis) made an impact.

Maybe they didn’t feel the need for games and hidden messages as their fanbase free older…just like they didn’t feel the need to slot in a terrible joke song on Nine.

A full out album announcement, single, TV appearances thing would be nice for the next album and it’d be nice if it was a dragged out process and more of a tidal wave of excitement (kind of how they tried to announce a return, tour and song together).

Nine came out 6 months before Covid, and its first single coming 10 months before it.
Mark got cancer mid 2021, Nine came out in 2019.
Nine had 2 singles pushed to radio, neither with a music video. Then it had a promotional single that was not pushed to radio, yet had a music video.
They also did a huge North American tour in support of it, where they typically only played 1 song from the album each night.

I'm tired of hearing excuses for Nine's rollout lol. The label just didnt seem interested in backing it. The whole thing was botched.

 

10-12 times.....yeah maybe in the first 8 hours it had come out I listened to it that much lol.
I'm already under the assumption that it'll be on my spotify most streamed songs list next month.

 

Mark was pretty definitive "We're not doing press right now" so there's definitely a calculated roll-out plan happening. I personally would love some extensive interviews about the BTS reformation of the band with some teasing about the album but everything has been perfect so far and the album is still a long way away. I am happy listening to Edging an egregious amount of times. I can be really picky about how many listens I will give myself on a single for pretty much every other band. For me, the more familiar with a blink song the more I enjoy it. They get the pass for me.

 

The time between DED and California will be similar to the time between Nine and Hard At Work (or whatever the new album is called).

 

Well they chose not to try and use other artist hype for Nine. No Miley version, or any of those hip hop guests appearances or producers.

It was really disjointed with Nine, but they did do something for a handful of different songs. And honestly, the album has some great songs they didn’t even try and push in any way.

I think the bridge in Violence sounds so beautiful. Might just be their most beautiful sounding bridge. It just makes me want to close my eyes and float away every time it hits.

 

Absolutely one of their top bridges.

 

I wouldn’t call that summer tour a Nine support tour considering the album came out on the last day of the tour and they hyped it as an Enema 20th Anniversary Tour. The rest of the post I 100% agree with. The label just didn’t care enough to promote it which is incredibly strange but whatever.

 

Is there anywhere you can sell tickets with instant payout? I upgraded to pit but now I'm stuck with my old tickets I paid a shit ton for too and trying to ease that pain too. Every reseller I can find doesn't pay until after the event ;_;

I feel like I've ruined album-listening experiences previously because of overlistening to singles, so, I'm gonna keep on this path. But you do you. Let's see how high your listens can get by the time this LP drops! Keep us updated.

Yes, and I'm sure other blink fans would have noticed too.

 

It’s possible that not all of the clips are Blink related, if any.

 

I like that it seems Travis is doing something a bit different this time around.
