I just want the guys to write something inspired, no matter what it sounds like. Dark and uninspired gets us “California Deluxe”

i think "heaven doesn't want me" was a good line that could really sum everything up.

I always took the line “Heaven doesn't want me now, Heaven doesn't want me” was about people who were killed due to gun violence before their time. I believe it was inspired by a shooting at a bar in California near where either Mark lives or they were in the studio. I don’t think the song is about some sort of self loathing.

I don’t think that song was meant to be introspective in anyway. I’m pretty sure there are quotes out there where Mark discussed the songs inspiration.

I found this in a quick search:

“Reality asserted itself in the making of the band’s new album on “Heaven,” a song initiated by Barker after a 2018 mass shooting barely two miles from his home, at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, where 12 people were killed. (The hooded shooter also committed suicide.) One of the victims at the Borderline had survived the shooting massacre at a country music festival in Las Vegas the year before.”

There are a few dark themes for sure.

I don’t think that guy has a very good voice, and the vocals seem way too loud in the mix

That was really meh. Nothing about it sticks out to me. No idea who that dude even is and probably wouldn’t have found out who he was if travis’ name wasn’t on the feature. And to be honest, I probably wouldn’t even have recognized that as Travis’ drumming just from hearing it.

If I had Travis featured on a song…I’m making his ass pull out all his tricks Untitled style. Get my damn money’s worth.

Starting to feel we've reached the saturation point with this latest wave of pop punk. Like for awhile there everyone had the same Knuckle Puck / State Champs crunchy guitars with double kick drums, and that got really played out.

Now everyone is doing the MGK sound (not sure if he deserves credit for it, but was the first to go "mainstream" with it).

Instead of "the MGK sound" let's call it the "featuring Travis Barker" sound

Avril Lavigne has been making a comeback with the same sound. Willow is still going strong with a similar sound too. More to come, probably.

If Avril's next album sounds entirely like her new single I'd be very happy about that, I feel like that's exactly what her career needs at this point

Is it the Travis Barker sound then? I personally find no appeal with some of these artists his working with. No idea what the politics are involved. That said, good him bringing some exposure to them.

Super hot fire take: I find most blink videos to be cringy. Like man overboard, a top five blink song for me, has the absolute worst fucking video. Even for back then, the whole short people humor thing was gross.

  21. yeah i wasn't a big fan of that video either. i like most of their videos a lot though. there's only a few i don't like.

the music video for Down is probably my least favorite.

For a band that’s known for their music videos Down was just so boring. Really all of the Untitled ones outside of Always were meh.

I agree Down was boring, but I like the shots of the band playing. Same with Feeling This.
