The whole mix seems a bit affected or compressed doesn’t it? Like Mark and Tom’s vocals are less distinctive from each other I think, due to the mix or whatever effects they’ve used on the vocals.

Early days for sure but I love the Untitled album from start to finish so Tom calling this their best work already is a no from me at least.

Yeah I like this song, love the back and forth between them. A fun summerish sing along blink song is exactly what they needed to put out for their first song back.

People complained about telling apart Mark and Matt but you can barely tell when it switches from Tom to Mark at the "brokenhearted" lol. And yeah guitars aren't much different from people's main complaints about California haha.

Anyways, I'm never crazy about that kind of drumbeat but it's solid hearing the whole thing. It'll grow on me and definitely gives me optimism for improvement over Neighborhoods and DED

I didn’t think the guitars were low in the mix?
I just think Travis’ drums carry the song with that dancey Ramones-esque beat.

Are you listening to the rip I posted? Because you're right, it's compressed to hell. It'll sound much better on Apple Music, etc.

I've always loved Tom's songwriting, but it's pretty clear that working with Ilan for a number of years has expanded his use of ideas. This song might be safe and fun, but I can't see 2011 reunion Tom releasing a song like this.

For this to be his return debut, he's gotta be in a good place with Mark and Travis. It seems more, relaxed? Is that the word?

    The song is fun enough!

It so weird to hear Tom like this haha. The guy who wanted GOTDF to be the main single for Neighborhoods, and who openly stated that he didnt get the appeal for after midnight haha.

The “whatcha say, wanna play” part is such a cheeseball. Good thing I like cheeseballs.

Also, this is clearly a song for radio. I mean, it's 2:13 in length. I dig it.

This if everything I wanted from a lead single in 2022. I can tell it’s going to be an ear worm.

That was based on the preview clips they released too. But yeah I listened on the one you posted which for sure will have steered a little.. but I was already thinking it before I’d listened to that!

Also is this like the first song since like the Untitled era where Tom hasn't got some sort of effect on his guitar i.e. delay, phaser etc?

Agree with everyone else. Song is super simple and safe, but sooo catchy. It’s so great hearing both of them so prominent in the song and even singing in unison. Even though it’s not experimental at all, this is a GREAT sign that Tom is clearly gelling with the other guys because you can hear EVERYONE’s influence.

Also, Tom’s “shit!” during the bridge got an audible laugh out of me.

Don’t know why anyone would be complaining about this song. This is a perfect kind of first track for them to release.

    Simple and catchy.

Couldn’t get the smile off my face while listening to it. Perfect single for this.

  23. It’s funny that before Tom rejoined this time, he basically considered Blink to be a joke band, and that’s why he didn’t want to be part of it. However, the dude was always making jokes every time he stepped up to a microphone or had a camera in his face. So I’m really happy that he’s finally leaning into just having fun and doing what comes natural.

This makes total sense to be the first lead single. Go with something safe and catchy. Ride the hype. Get it in everyone’s head. They’re back, thank fucking god.
