Not defending anything, or saying people shouldn't give a shit, but it is a bit exhausting being expected to have an opinion about literally everything these days, regardless of how much or how little you know about a situation.

 

Also don't think that having views on one particular thread on a website means not caring about anything at all.

 

I can safely say that the way that you react to people bringing up abuse is a good sign as to whether or not you're a piece of shit, lol. Why would you care about abuse or accountability or victims in every other aspect of your life and then choose to belittle or laugh it of in the blink 182 thread on an internet forum?

 

And, before people start building weird arguments that I have never made, I'm not saying you should stop listening to the band or burn their CDs or whatever hyperbole usually gets brought up. Just saying you can call out abusers for their abuse and call for change when members of the band pal around with nazis!

 

I’m not sure what we are expected to do then. What good is calling it out repeatedly if there isn’t anything else to do? There is no “accountability” to ever happen here.

 

I think the bare minimum of what you can do is not make jokes or sarcastic responses to people calling out abuse, lol. That's a pretty simple thing

If we wanted to put together a book about what to do/what not to do when your favorite artist gets called out on their shit, we can compile all of your and all of .k.'s posts to put into the "Don't do this" section

At a very base level, my suggestion would be to ignore it if you don't think that it alters your perception of Travis Barker? Just ignore it and rank blink 182 b-sides or something like the rest of the thread does when something uncomfortable gets brought up?

Becoming actively antagonistic and saying "hope Travis reads this" or whatever dumb shit you're doing is in bad taste.

As I mentioned before, the overwhelming majority of things posted in that thread deserve some level of accountability. There’s been some truly awful things shared in there, including a few earlier today about All Time Low.

It’s super weird to take a negative stance against a thread like that as a whole. There’s the occasional post that shouldn’t be made, and some discussions certainly haven’t been the best, but the foundation of the thread is bringing attention to super scummy behaviour by people in a position of power.

 

At its core? To get people who don't know about a certain problematic even to know about it. I didn't know about that Travis Barker article in here until someone posted it.

For dorks like you and the people liking your posts, I guess the point of bringing it up over and over is to annoy or bother you. To make you uncomfortable with the fact that you're more willing to fight back against people calling out abusers than to sit back and simply let the posts exists. To disrupt the regular ebb and flow of the thread to raise awareness towards something shitty that a band member is doing.

Getting you to show your entire ass online, at the very least, has allowed me to weed out one more person whose opinion I should even read, let alone consider.

 

Sounds like we're in a good spot to stop then. All of that has been accomplished this time around. You can annoy, bother, make uncomfortable, and disrupt again when you feel ready.

I feel like people get really weird (or rather, weirdly defensive) whenever anything negative is brought up in here. Sure, it happens often, but that doesn't mean you need to be super defensive every time. Maybe trying to understand that these people (well, specifically Travis in this case) are not great people is something worth doing. You can still listen to this band, I think we all listen to problematic artists on here, but being defensive when they are called out, idk it just strikes me as not worth it. Even if they are being called out for the 100th time.

I don't know what should happen because it's definitely a cycle in here (regular discussion->members shitty actions are brought up->arguments occur->repeat) and I think something should probably be done so this endless loop does not continue to happen. I know closing the thread is extreme and obviously not something that many would want on here, but people bringing up the members shitty actions aren't going to stop.

 

Also Travis was drumming for Lil Huddy the other day who said the N word last year and faced virtually no consequences for doing that, which sucks.
