Yeah I've definitely talked about it a ton before, but that first 10 year span for the band went from grainy Flyswatter to pristine Untitled. 10 years after that we had only Neighborhoods. Granted there was a falling out and stoppage of the band, but the first two decades contrast so greatly.

    Friday thoughts:

Hearts All Gone is the best +44 song featuring Tom Delonge (ala BCR Elevator featuring Mark). It's a point that's been discussed to death before, but it's very apparent the songs that were Mark and the songs that were Tom on Neighborhoods. I wonder how different this album could have been had it been worked on together.

If people rank Nine/Cali below Cheshire or Buddha, they are just haters that couldn't accept the band making music without Tom.

Finished Mark's book so naturally I am watching the Coachella performance. That little snapshot behind the stage before they went on is still goosebump inducing. First show back as a trio in years and their nervousness and excitement is palpable. Favorite bit:

Mark: "how about maybe don't be a dick"
Tom: "yeah you are what you eat"

Going into One More Time at some point, but since I completed the discog run I figured I'd throw out my updated album rankings after listening again:

    Untitled
    TOYPAJ
    OMT
    Enema
    DED
    Neighborhoods = Nine
    Dude Ranch
    California
    Cheshire
    Buddha

In all seriousness, what is holding this band back from being inducted to the R&R HOF? Not that they need it, or that we want it, but just kinda crazy that a band this big isn't even considered? Is it how they sound in a live setting?

    "blink-182 sucks live"
    "we know"

  7. You had me until DED, Neighborhoods, and Nine being put over Dude Ranch, which arguably has Tom's best guitar riffs and Mark's best Blink lyrics. BUT OK, CHAMPY CHAMPERSON!

Yeah those 4 could change on the daily honestly. All 4 are different and really depends on the mood.

  9. DED = Neighborhoods = Nine = Dude Ranch is just as offensive hahaha

This makes the most sense for me. I became aware of them during Enema, got into them for TOYPAJ, and was meticulously following the recording process/Cheetah vids for Untitled. Dude Ranch and OMT could probably switch depending on my mood, OMT gets the recency bias bump. I like the Skiba records more than the first reunion records. Round it off with the early material that doesn’t do much for me outside a few songs on Cheshire. I’ll check in again in Q3 for that round of rankings.

I'll hang with him for loving Cheshire/Buddha more than Cali/Nine.

We love a good deep dive. I dig the neighborhoods NINE parallel. They’re both records that represent a blink identity crisis imo. Moments of triumph and some big whiffs.
DED has some killer + 44 songs on it as well.

I dont disagree with any blink ranking. It’s all subjective and deeply personal to the die hards.

Objectively Nine is a better album than Cheshire Cat, but the nostalgia that album brings gets it ranked just above Nine.

Just completed the Neighborhoods-OMT portion of the discog run. Here are my thoughts.

Neighborhoods: was surprised how much I actually enjoyed listening to this album, yet it’s still my least favorite Mark, Tom and Travis album. The Interlude + Hearts All Gone were probably the songs that jumped out to me the most.

DED: didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I remembered I did when it was released. Pretty Little Girl is still so awkward.

California: fun album. First 3 tracks are classic Blink. Los Angeles is still a no for me, dawg. Matt’s verse in The Only Thing That Matters might be his best Blink moment.

Nine: um this album kinda rules? My highest riser after listening through them all. The production is exquisite. Good variety of songs.

OMT: it’s still so good. I find it difficult to rank their albums but it’s on the Enema/Untitled tier for me. The quantity and quality when factoring in the deluxe edition may push it to the top. Still can’t believe we got that good of an album at this stage of their careers.

Pretty much my exact sentiments (but I actually dig Los Angeles, ha).

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Los Angeles is interesting, I think they did that sound better on Black Rain though
