I'd take active blink over blink with Tom any day. We got more music in the past year and a half than we did in the entire Tom blink reunion.

Also a perk to not have to listen to an attempt of Tom singing blink live. Would love to see him back in the band eventually, but I'm happy with what we have now considering they are actually putting music out.

Yeah but all the new music was mostly trash.
The only positive I get out of this era of Blink is that it finally put them back on top. Great to see them playing these huge shows and topping charts again.

I just wish Tom would take singing lessons and have a vocal trainer on tour with him. Whether you consider yourself a bad singer or not, you should be doing these things if you sing professionally.

  3. So I'm listening to that new Goldfinger record which actually I don't hate but outside of like 3 songs, they've never really piqued my interest so this is the first full record I have heard from them. Maybe I'll go back and hear a record or two, maybe not. Not all that interested.

That said, I figured the Mark song on that record would be this one but it's not. So what is THIS one because I still think it sounds rad. Was it a vocal take from Mark on a different song on the GF record I didn't recognize at this point? Hope we get to hear it sometime soon.

John Feldman is responsible for a lot of the things I don't like about California. He's best known for his work with 5 Seconds of Summer for God's sake, a boy band with no pop punk bone in them.

Yea I'm pretty sure Feldmann is best known for Goldfinger. I don't think the 5SOS fans probably care all that much who produced the album.

I really don't get the logic of blaming Feldmann for what California sounds like. It's not as if the band chose that producer unaware of who they were getting. They obviously knew the sound they were going for and that Feldmann would be the best guy to help get them there. I understand why someone may not like that sound, but it seems weird to me to act like blink themselves didn't contribute to that.

For the record: I personally really like California & the deluxe, and generally like what Feldmann produces. Always admire a producer where you can listen and clearly tell they had their hands on it.

Probably a ton of people who couldn't care less who the producer of 5SOS is. Gonna guess he's best known for Superman lol

We're still hating on pop music huh?

Feldman produces in the same way every album as of late. Drives me insane.

He's best known to most for 99 Red Balloons cover probably.

Recently he's been known for overproducing records for sure though

I know him bc of GF's song Superman and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. But over the years he's become really known for being a music Producer (Recently Blink's Grammy nominated record, Panic at the Disco, 5SOS, 311, The Used, Good Charlotte, Story of the Year (Page Avenue), All Time Low, Neon Trees, and....Hilary Duff hahah). I know that Goldfinger money from the 90's didn't get him that house in Calabasas haha. That had to come from his success as a Producer unless he invests in other things I'm unaware of haha.

Yup I agree. The goal of California was to get blink back into the mainstream and popular again. The album was #1 for a week, had a #1 single and a Grammy nod. Whether someone liked the album or not it was a complete success.

I think Feldmann gets blamed because of the public talk about how the song writing process took place and for the first time there were co-writers that actually got credited for their contributions. Other than the Untitled album (which took almost a year) and Neighborhoods (which was just a disaster in terms of recording schedules) the band spent the same amount of time in the recording studio (approximately 3 months). People also complained that they wrote songs too quickly as the band stated they would write sometimes 1 to 3 songs a day but the band had written songs in the past as quickly as 15 minutes (Going Away To College, Dammit) to overnight (Rock Show, First Date). As far as having co-writers on their songs, they had Jerry Finn help with lyrics in the past so it wasn't as if the band never had help it's just that now credit is being given because the music industry is different now than in the past. Plus San Diego and Sober had co-writers on it yet those are two of the better received songs on the album so you kind of have to throw your hands up.

I liked California a lot but the Deluxe album is just kind of there for me. I didn't dislike it but I'm glad they decided to release it now instead of saving those songs for another album. Outside of a few songs it just felt like B-sides/filler songs.

Moving forward I do hope they use a different producer than Feldmann just because I'd like they to make a different type of album than what we got with California and I'm not sure if Feldmann would be able to do that. But the complaining about Feldmann is really old and tiring especially how some people seem to think that he had all the say and Mark, Travis and Matt had none and were just along for the ride.

Yeah a Facebook Trio group I'm in, someone posted about how Last Train Home sounded very Skiba and then they just think he had barely any input anywhere else. Like there's parts that do seem very Feldmann, but there's nothing in Matt's catalog to even compare against with his blink stuff. It's like okay this doesn't sound like typical Matt? Maybe it's what happens when Matt says "okay how would a blink song sound?" like if it doesn't sound like Trio, people are automatically like "nope he didn't write this" it feels like people think this record is 50% Mark, 40% John and Matt just came in and sang what someone wrote for him because they don't like it. It's so dumb.

Yeah that's silly especially since Matt has done interviews recently where he stated when they first started to write songs for the new album in the fall of 2015 all of the songs Matt wrote sounded too much like Alkaline Trio so he had to change the way he wrote for blink since it's a completely different band.

  18. Remember Matt even said recently anything he would write for California sounded pretty much like a Trio song. He had to force himself to make a song that would sound like a Blink song.
