  1. The dude ran a really fucking shady "investment" thing to, IMO, legit scam fans out of money. I'm not about to defend that shit.

The "in it for the money!" argument is dumb all around ... they all have a fuck ton of it and they're all trying to get more all the time.

  4. And they always have been. It's nothing new. They've been cash grabbing since they SOLD OUT and signed to a major label in 1997! Fucking posers... "All The Small Things" is NOT punk! Bring back Tom!

If the album isn’t finished, I have my doubts it will be announced on Friday.

Look, I'm a broken person, so I had to do this instead of the real work I should be doing right now. Also, Ryan, I know this isn't you actually posting, I'm just quoting it anyway.

I think this misses a big theme in the song itself, it's not writing about their youth, it's about reflecting on who they are now, and it's almost a sarcastic refrain of this is what made me who I am, with a little self-knowing wink.

Because they're good people and if a few people bounce ideas around in a collaborative environment, which they want to be a part of, they give them credit. It's the right thing to do and the band likes working with a variety of people to craft their sound. From Mark Trombino to Jerry Finn and all the people that worked with him, to now, this isn't really that new. What's new is people pouring through the credits that are now rightfully given. I, for one, am glad Trombino has a writing credit on "Dammit" -- he deserves it!

As for "shitty teenage garage band could have penned these same words" -- it's not that I really disagree, but, that's Blink-182 and pretty much why we love most of their shit ... they're a shitty teenage garbage band that got giant.

Genre arguing is silly in 2019 for the most part. This exact sentence was said the first time the band released "What's My Age Again?" and I've heard it for virtually every record release since I was 15 years old.

Second: Any guitar part or drum could easily be sampled to sound "the same way." We can fake the fuck out of everything now if you really want to. And the drums and bass (and synth/keys) are fucking awesome on this track.

It's interesting to me what people consider evolution or devolution, and how often when a band writes something that sounds more modern it's considered a devolution. This isn't less intricate than most of their catalog, it's not more catchy than most of their catalog, it's right in line with what the band's been writing for a long time ... relatively simple, clever, fun, summer songs that people relate to and like to sing along and jump around with. It's more modern sounding than their past work, just like the music they made in 1999 sounded different than 1995 and in 2003 everyone made the "cool they learned drop D tuning, finally" joke. Each step has had the same kinds of people launching similar complaints as the band navigates current music and their place within it, shifting to songs like "GATC" and "ATST" for modern listeners brought similar shit-talking, and when the screamo/emo era was taking over and they put on some eyeliner and released "I Miss You" ... they, shocking I know now, were also mocked. But they remained relevant and found new fans and some of their old even stuck around because they loved what they were trying and love Blink-182's take on music.

I don't think that's different here. This sounds like Blink-182 finding their footing again with a "back to basics" album (Cali) and then deciding to play around with some new things ... that's why to me it has a "Feeling This" vibe, because it's playing with chorus/verse and pacing in a way that distinctly feels like 2019 summer wrapped in a Blink-182 bow.

And I like Blink-182 in the summer.

    /Rant.

It's funny, I totally recognize that gif is from their Firefly Festival set in 2016. At the time the lineup was announced (in November 2015), the big talk in this thread was how Blink was billed like 7th on the lineup. The general consensus was that without the original lineup, Blink would become a large club band and be billed middle tier on festivals.

Fast forward 3 years later and their headlining the biggest festivals like Lollapalooza, and selling out arenas everywhere (even almost headlined a god damn baseball stadium before getting cancelled). Not to mention a number album that went platinum, 2 songs that were #1 on the billboard alt chart, and one song charting at like 80 on the Hot 100.

    Jesus.

So I'm not a Panic at the Disco fan, but I've obviously noticed that their sound has changed drastically from the 2005's "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" sound to 2019's "High Hopes" sound. Are their fans just as moody as Blink's, or are they are normal fan base that either embraces the change or walks away peacefully?

  14. Maybe we here are just older and wiser than the Reddit/Twitter/YouTube generation.

(I was going to say we are more mature, but I'm definitely not very mature.)

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

The should have just copied his "AHHH" from Cynical into the chorus instead of the "OH" haha

  17. Sounds like nothing but a legacy band to me. :eh:

  18. I remember when "Dammit" was on the Can't Hardly Wait soundtrack and someone signed my shitty website's guest book that the band were "sellouts" and should be embarrassed.

And don't even get me started about "What's My Age Again" or the LIT video. Heh.

I do, however, really like the idea that the band that has "Ben Wah Balls" in their catalog now is going to ruin their "name" with a catchy single.

  19. They've gotten so big their new massive fanbase just way out numbers the old. Heh.

The really old heads just talk about Pretty.Odd. online for scene points.

  20. Yellowcard "fans" during the Lift a Sail cycle will forever be the group that made me the most mad though. It was legit depressing.

And let's be real ... Thrice fans ain't great.
