hahaha.... Matt. The guy does it to himself.

Was thinking today about how ironic it is that Mark & Travis kicked Tom out so they could play shows and now no shows can happen for the foreseeable future. I wonder if they're starting to regret the way everything went down in 2015.

It's been 5 years since Matt joined and we got 2 big summer tours and 2 new albums. I feel like if they took 2015-2016 off to let Tom do what he needed to get TTS up and running, we would've gotten 1-2 perhaps smaller tours and at least 1 new record. Just kind of interesting to think about.

If Tom stayed in the band would we have gotten a new record? Probably. But the band wouldn't have been nearly as active as they've been the last 5 years.
Plus it's more than just being active...I think if Tom stayed there still would have been a lot of contention over how that new album was going to sound. Mark & Travis clearly wanted to work with a producer, Tom was against that.

  5. LOL the output is at least 300% more than what we’d have gotten otherwise

In this Skiba era I've seen them live 4 times (actually had tickets for a 5th time but gave it away), gotten 2 new records, a deluxe album of b-sides, a (really fun) christmas single, and apparently a new EP on the way.

Compare that to the hypothetical 1 tour 1 album we would've gotten if Tom stayed lol.

Tom reunion era: I saw them 3 times, got 1 full length & 1 EP (IMO the better xmas single)

I just don't see the argument that they are 300% more productive with Skiba but I understand a lot of you in here are bigger fans of this new era than I am. Just the things I think about while bored and working from home lol.

Oh don't get me wrong I much prefer the 09-15 Tom era than this new era (although Nine has some really great moments). But it was clear that Tom wasn't motivated to be productive and the guys were eager to keep the Blink flame going.
Hell look at this AVA return. He announced the return of AVA way over a year ago, and he says the album still isn't done lol.

As someone else tried to say this, a fucking pandemic doesn't make that ironic. Irony would be if Matt did exactly what Tom did to focus on Trio stuff.

Tom hasn't even completed one album for AVA, the band he cares about. There would be zero new blink music continuing with Tom. Maybe one tour. That's it. Goddamn lol.

Not sure why you're so pissed dude? Pandemic or not, it's still ironic they asked Tom to leave so they could tour more and now they can't tour. In this alternate reality where Tom never left, I don't think he would be so focused on new AVA music.

AVA has become his only music project but if he never left blink I think we wouldn't gotten at least 1 new blink record with him in the same time frame is all I'm saying. It's clear you guys aren't down to even have this hypothetical conversation without taking offense to it so I'll stop but damn, it'd be nice to be able to discuss things like this with other fans without everyone getting all pissy.

And that's not even his worst performance... No thank you.

The irony would've been if a month after kicking Tom out the pandemic happened, not 5 years later.

Kicking Tom was the right call. No doubt about it.

The dude just didn’t care. Clearly he wanted to do something different and that’s fine. Do I wish he cared and we got Tom 100 per cent into Blink since the reunion? Yes. But that’s not what happened and this version of Blink is better.

As a proud Tombot, I can't help but admit that (sorta-)kicking Tom out from blink was the best decision the guys could make. I mean, it's cool to be punk, but not in 201Xs. Blink didn't sell well back in 2011, and what we see now? Grammy nominations, topping charts, getting Pitchfork reviews, releasing tons of awesome content.

I love Tom so much, dunno why though.

But I can't deny that he's been drowning in his own "world", trying to do 1000 things at a time w. almost no success, when there is freaking ONE thing he should do: write catchy, vibe-y melodies, listen to Mark when he says "let's cut this intro from 1 minute to 6-7 seconds", and be successful guitarist/vocalist in one of the biggest rock bands with one of the most amazing drummers of all time. It's just killing me. Yeah, do what you love, sure. But stick to what you can do perfectly. And it's not young adults fiction w. the help of ghostwriters. It's not making Gravity movie ripoff (the production was quite a-ok though, considering budget). It's not hanging with some weird-looking "UFO gov experts" to create some weird fraud company (ok maybe not fraud but you get the point). I just can't believe how much Tom is into himself. I can't. He's a smart guy. Then why would he go this way? Hope to G-d that he's right with his UFO thing, but... Tom, please, talk to the guys in a proper manner, hire a producer, and create Untitled II! And then tour the f-ing world and visit my "developing country" (I'm from Kyiv, Ukraine).

I miss Mark-Tom chemistry so much.

How do you think people, would Tom read this and change his mind? Pretty sure he would.

P.S. Sorry for this strange rant. But I had to let it all out.

I mean, I'm sure they aren't kicking themselves thinking "Ah man, we could be NOT making music with Tom right now...."

I had fun during the reunion era, but they put out one mediocre album (that none of them seem to be happy with) and an EP over the course of six years and had constant promises of a new album that was never actually going to materialize.

Compare that to 2016-2019... They've had a double-album with probably their best post-reunion song ("Bored to Death"), a slew of collaborations that would have never happened with Tom because he hardly ever collaborates with anyone, their best album since Untitled and hardly any false promises which gave Mark the confidence/freedom to do two Simple Creatures EPs and Travis to do all kinds of other projects.

Tom's released three singles and done one tour in that time.

I think people consistently forget the Tom they fell in love with is not the same exact dude making music today.

He has a ridiculous nostalgic factor and is a ridiculous presence, however, the years of 2009-2011 in specific were BRUTAL.

I'm honestly not nostalgic about old Tom, I think I like current era Tom the best. He doesn't seem like he's trying hard to impress people of fans, he's just doing what makes himself happy and isn't trying to live up to a certain image (his stage banter during the 09-13 time felt so forced and fake). He's also not making as many unrealistic expectations

This deadest sounds like someone trying to do an over the top parody of Tom's vocals.

I saw them with tom once at Soundwave in 2013. Tom's voice was gone. It was a sad day.

I mean I definitely like his voice and it’s nearly iconic to the genre, however, that still doesn’t mean he is arguably one of the most horrendous live performers lol.
