FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

Untitled is the only blink record to get really anything even remotely resembling critical acclaim. I like to read reviews but they couldn't mean less to me really haha.

  3. I'll never forget this line from the Mojo review though:
The heart of the album sticks closely to their well-tried formula: sing-song melodies and puerile lyrics set against a steady backdrop of numbingly bland riffage.

This post makes it seem like there’s a reason behind moving the time of the concert from 8 to 7.

Tom has been playing it during the AvA tour and the crowd at my show finished it by going "Tom has sex with guys!" and he loved it. Haha

Definitely odd as that should be shipping today if they are trying to coordinate it with the 9/20 release. My bundle hasn't shipped (though the splatter did) but I have next day shipping on that.

Re: reviews, while never being a critical darling, blink has always actually done pretty well in general, even at their most sophomoric. There aren't a ton of reviews of Cheshire or Dude Ranch from the time (though Kerrang said Dude Ranch lacked "memorable hooks" which... okay), but Enema got 4.5/5 from Billboard, 3/5 from Rolling Stone, and excluding the Mark, Tom, and Travis Show, when the band starts showing up on Metacritic they're doing more than solid: TOYPAJ has a 69 (nice), untitled a 71, Neighborhoods a 69 (nice), Dogs Eating Dogs a 68, and California a 63. It's not universal acclaim or anything, but they rarely get shit on and are generally liked, and as the years go by and publications do more retrospective reviews, the albums are generally holding up really well and taken more seriously. Which they deserve. Heck, a 2001 review of TOYPAJ compares blink "with a branch of punk rock you could trace back through the Replacements and Ramones Leave Home, to the more ethereal of early Who songs", which, in addition to actually being kind of accurate, I think, shows that they were being taken seriously even back then, even if that level of serious praise and thought wasn't consensus.

I'd expect Nine to fall in a similar range to everything they've done before in terms of critical reception, mostly liked with a few detractors.

  15. NME's review of Enema will always be hilarious to me:
Wholly toothless and soulless, ‘Enema Of The State’ does the unimaginable, rendering abrasive guitars and nosebleed drums banal. Not once during its thankfully brief 35 minutes do Blink 182 turn their amps below 11, but, chances are, they couldn’t tell you why they were playing so loudly. Indeed, the lack of musical or emotional dynamic present is enough to suggest Blink 182 don’t feel much of anything at all (and not in the turbulent, poignantly numb style of, say, Dinosaur Jr either).

Aside from his BN stance, the fact that he ranks Neighborhoods above Enema and Dude Ranch is enough to make me not care about his opinion haha

But yeah he echoed pretty much all my thoughts other than him thinking Hungover You is among the weakest (probably my current favorite)
