Loving this. I was not a huge fan of California and like this better than almost anything on there. Excited for the album!
Oh hell yes. I was scared when the song started, but immediately loved it. This is great. Especially the verses. The chorus may be a little unoriginal melodically, but it's catchy as shit so who cares. Matt sounds great. Haters gonna hate (hate hate hate hate).
So excited bands I love still put out music when they don’t have to. However, this is underwhelming as a lead single. Still excited for the record.
I like how Skiba sounds like Skiba in this. It's not likely something I will personally listen to a lot but I wish them the best on the album and will check it out when it releases. It's definitely catchy. California wasn't really for me but I hadn't really followed Blink past Take Off Your Pants. Always followed Alk3 through the years though. Edit: Just found out that What's My Age Again/A Milli mashup exists. ..not good.
Did they not announce the new album? I’m assuming this will be on the album and not a one-off single.
I was grinning for the whole first minute of this song. This is a great direction for them and really feels like it is a step forward. Everyone sounds great. I think they make much better use of Matt on this. I really like the laid back vibe it has.
I had to google who Tim Pagnotta was bc the name seemed familiar. Wow. This dude looks nothing like I remember him from the Sugarcult heyday.
I agree, I'll always miss what Tom brought and try not to judge the new blink compared to the previous lineup. I'm really liking this.
Maybe my least favorite lead single from Blink...I think because nothing about this that screams “This is Blink 182”... Just listened on Spotify and after it finished “Josie” came on next and I just can’t comprehend that this is the same band. Still excited for the album, hoping on this album we’ll see Skiba bring a darker vibe to some of the album cuts.
I'm not saying it's Skiba's fault, I love Alkaline Trio and I think he is super talented. I meant that this sounds like completely overproduced garbage with zero energy from a band that should have hung it up years ago before they became the band that released this song.
100% this. I LOVE the song, and I lOVE this comment even more. This feels like the song I've wanted since 'Neighborhoods'. It's got the pop-punk flavor we need, with the actual modern pop radio sensibilities that should make it a hit.
The guitars don't "punch" - I think that's what bothers me the most, if anything. Everything is a bit muffled. The song itself is catchy as hell, but there's no edge. It's like listening to Simple Creatures with earmuffs, or like standing outside a great concert venue and hearing it through an open door.
Is it weird to want a multi-platinum band to have another hit as much as I do? 'Neighborhoods' was fine, and 'California' was excellent, but I am in LOVE with this song. This feels like actual evolution for a 25+ year old band. It's the first time since, maybe, 'Untitled' that one of their singles has matched up with modern pop radio. It reminds my of when Fall Out Boy put out 'SRAR.' Fingers crossed for this song. I'm totally on board.
I don't hate it, but I also don't see myself going out of my way to listen to it ever? I think I'm going to withhold judgment until I can hear it in the context of the record. This definitely strays far closer to the Imagine Dragons of the world then I'm usually interested in. Lyrics are better. I laughed at the "whoas" in the chorus after they said no more na-na-nas on this record.
I'm utterly at a loss as to why this would be the lead single for a new album. Just a mid-tempo, over electronic, imagine dragons-ass slog, and this is coming from someone who liked Bored To Death. Really hope the album sounds nothing like this.
Ha! Perfect. I'm with you, man. This is what music in 2019 sounds like. This is evolution and growth. It sounds like such a hit, and I also have a feeling it won't even be the best song on the album.
I'm willing to take bets on it doing very well as a lead single. (I buy all that stock when I see Hollander's name these days.)
