I think a song like She Lays Down does it sooo well and isn’t distracting in the least. On this album, it just is! It’s all I can hear.
there’s a tasteful way to have the finger movements on an acoustic guitar be present for an intimate feel but also not be grating, it has to do with mic placement and blending the mics on the acoustic guitar to taste and then obviously EQing out the harsh frequencies you hear from the scraping against the strings. compression can take care of it too but that can start taking away from the organic feel
I like this record more than most of you, but I do wonder what it could have been if Jack had really steered into the Bruce of it all and went full Imploding the Mirage on the production.
I was gonna say I think imploding the mirage is a much, much better version of what this album tried to do
Oh, absolutely. I just feel like this album would at least be closer to the mark if it had that larger-than-life sound The Killers were going for on Mirage. Like, “Don’t Go Dark” (a song I like a lot) would be like 10 times better if it had the oomph of “Dying Breed.”
I don’t particularly like ItM but I can, like, hear all the instruments on it and stuff, so I guess I gotta give it up
I'm think was going for something more 'live' sounding, as opposed to the bold, highway-burning sound of Born to Run. That's not to completely disagree with the mix detractors here. That's totally valid.
I like this record, but I have to agree. I remember literally thinking, "this is what Bleachers goes for" at various parts throughout that album.
This is a good point, which I guess explains why that sound works pretty well on the songs that veer more toward 1973 Springsteen and less well on the songs that skew more Born to Run.
so has anyone been able to complete the #BleachersChallenge yet? Start the album at a normal volume and you can't touch the volume dial the entire album, can anyone do it?!?!
I do it most times I’ve listened to it BUT I’ve mostly only listened to it while at work doing other stuff and I don’t think I could tell you what “Secret Life” sounds like if you paid me.
Am I the only one who has never heard this 2016 Bleachers song from the soundtrack of a movie I've never heard of? Hello, My Name Is Doris Music Video - Dance Rascal Dance (2016)
@JRGComedy, thank you for telling me about Steel Train's self-titled album earlier this month. This is SO my shit, and I've been playing it nonstop.
