It’s cause it’s hard to listen to. The production choices become actively caustic in headphones. Songs are pretty good, but it sounds like a cheese grater on my ear drums.
TTSOOSN is good, but also I don't like it anywhere near as much as the first two records (in large part due to the production).
TTSOOSN is actually the only record of his I own, but mainly because it had tour dates on the front cover and I picked it up at the show
I think that’s what really gets at me with that album. He’s a great producer. It’s not a mistake or lack of talent that makes the album sound the way it does. It was all purposeful choices that just do not work for me one bit.
i think @wisdomfordebris is saying that the majority of the fanbase hates TTSOSN but they like it, like how everyone hates FOAM but i like it. not actually comparing the albums haha.
The production is definitely a weak spot, but it doesn't bug me too bad. The volume inconsistency track to track is annoying and I could do with the vocals being less buried, but it feels more "undercooked" to me than "hard to listen to."
no no no. not at all. It's bad, but a fun kinda bad. I have so much fun poking holes in all of the logics and horrible writing of it. FOAM just made me want to hit myself in the head.
I should rephrase. Half the songs on FOAM are fun if you're the type of person that lets themselves have fun listening to music.
To this day I don't know if I've ever been more baffled by production choices on an album that his last one. Cautiously optimistic for this one. I don't think Alma Mater is bad, but it's certainly a strange choice for a single.
