After a week, this is working for me as a “in the background while I do work” type record. Nothing jumps out, but it’s an enjoyable listen and works for me as a full album experience.
This is my AOTY so far. I can’t get enough of it. I’m not sure I have an actual song that’s my favorite. I prefer to listen to the whole thing. The only song I don’t quite like is “Hey Joe.”
This is so good. Alma mater is maybe the best song on here. I think he could have left off the waiter though. Such a vibey record.
there is a cell phone recording of it lol on youtube and goddamn this would have been the best song on the album, the man incapable of making the right tracklist stays incapable
does the bonus track version of Margo have no percussion / drums at all...??? I'm starting to think the little clips I've heard were just snippets of them playing it live...
I wish I liked this as much as most. Then again, I seemed in the minority loving the previous album. Other than Modern Girl nothing is sticking out or staying with me. Feels a bit too 1975-y with lots of soft, ambient songs and not the E-Street energy I like about them. It might grow on me.
yeah i think this is my favorite bleachers record. i rarely go back to the really poppy stuff from the first two records these days and was hoping for something different -- so to get a more laid back album that showcases his production and lyrics over bops, i'm all for it. alma matter is literal candy, i can't get enough of the little elements in that song. hey joe is definitely my least favorite on here, but it's also a short track and keeps up some energy in the back half so i'm not mad it's there.
We didn't have to imagine, because that exists and I've posted it twice in this very thread already haha
this song, produced a little more like the live version, would be the best song out of the entire album + bonus tracks it's weird also because the album really needed another song like that as well
I actually might like this version better than the doris version. I wish it were mixed a little more like the rest of the album (hard to tell if it's mediocre vinyl rip or just demo-level mix holding it back a bit). But it's an excellent song in all 3 ways it's been done and it is really hard to understand how this didn't make the album proper.
