Also so happy for Jack for his P!nk collab. He has low key actually become one of the biggest names in music, in the Sia kind of way, where he's everywhere even if not everybody realizes it.
I agree with this 100%, definitely what I was trying to get across when I said I love the dialogue thematically and what it means for the album as a whole
Beautiful Trauma. It just came out today. Title track from her new album. I haven't listened yet. Yep! The good news for me is I usually just listen to the whole thing anyway haha
guess I gotta go listen to the Pink track!! Congrats again to Jack, dude has worked so hard to come so far
Haha this song is SO JACK, totally feels like Pink's version of a Lorde/Taylor song, curious how that works ha
Sounds about what you would expect a Pink and Jack collab to sound like, which is a great thing. So we've got one with Nate and one with Jack. When is the Pink and Andrew Dost collab coming?
I feel like once a year he tweets he's working on something and then just goes silent but I'm over here anxiously waiting. I need more Nate soon too. It's been 2.5 years since Grand Romantic now? And he hasn't toured in 2 years. I assume he's spending time with his kid though, which I can't knock, but I hope he's got something boiling under the surface.
funny you mention that, I have definitely felt the exact same way, it's weird being that I have followed him since The Format's first album, there has never really been a time of silence like this. He doesn't have social media, but I started following his girlfriend simply because she posts pictures of him a lot haha
This is probably AOTY for me. But I'm glad to see the discussion about the dialogue clips - it is just on the verge of being overkill. If there were more variety, it wouldn't be so bad but across the full album, the repetition is just a touch more than enough. 4-ish months later, Dream of Mickey Mantle is still one of my highlights, in addition to DTTM, Everybody Lost Somebody, Let's Get Married, and I Miss Those Days. More recently, Goodmorning and Foreign Girls have really been on repeat for me. After hearing Foreign Girls live, I love it even more. I actually think I prefer the key Jack sings it in live, as the verse vocals in the recording are also a little uncomfortable.
Haha that's a good idea actually! It literally feels like he doesn't exist anymore to me because I don't see anything about him anywhere and his lack of social media. I have to imagine he's working on something. I've only been (closely) following him since the summer before We Are Young came out, and even since then it was like I constantly saw him, then there was a short break between fun. and GR, then I saw him twice again, and then absolutely nothing for 2 years. I'll just have to be patient though
I wish I got to see any of Nate's projects live but I never have. I especially wanted to see his solo tour since it had songs from his whole career
Seeing Oceans live was as amazing as you can expect. I'm sure he's not done touring though! It'll be really interesting to see what he does next.
I know no one cares, but...... I saw The Format 6 times, Steel Train 6 times, fun. 10 times, Nate once and Bleachers 4 times
uh YEAH you do. The self titled album honestly sounds like Jack figured out what he wanted to do with Bleachers. The self titled album is an all timer for me. Trampoline is amazing as well, really was a scene staple when it came out and it really holds up. Twilight Tales is (no surprise) ALSO excellent, but it's odd because it's way more folksey and has the second singer singing a fair amount of the album. Some all-timers on that album also though. And then, of course, For You My Dear... what introduced the world to the band, right when Drive Thru was THE label. They came onto the label and immediately stood out, sounded nothing like the rest of the bands on the label. Anyway, I just listed those in reverse chronological order, which is kinda a perfect way to listen to them as a Bleachers fan
I care! haha I'm super jealous you saw the Format. I'm always hoping for a reunion, however unlikely (although I don't even know if it's that unlikely). If I ever get to see If Work Permits or Dog Problems live, I will 100% guaranteed melt in a puddle of tears. I'll also still hold on to hope I'll make a Steel Train show one of these days, since they do sporadically still play, but I'll be honest and say I'm not as into Steel Train as the rest of these bands, mostly just because I haven't given it the time. There are definitely songs I love though (Kill Monsters In the Rain, Bullet, Firecracker, I Feel Weird). I saw fun. 6.5 times haha the first time I saw them was when they were opening for Panic! At the Disco and my friend couldn't find parking so we walked in super late and I only saw 2 and a half songs. I was so bummed I missed them, that I literally only listened to Aim & Ignite the rest of the summer. I'm not being hyperbolic at all. I have never had that intense and deep of a connection with an album in my life. It was all I could even think about for months. The songs infected me. It's my favorite album of all time. I also consider it the start of my musical renaissance, because it inspired me to start listening to things outside of my usual pop-punk/warped tour band wheelhouse. I've gotten to see Nate solo twice, and Bleachers 7 times, with one more coming this November. It feels really weird that Bleachers is actually going to surpass the number of times I've seen fun.
I love/miss the whole scene of Format/Steel Train/Hellogoodbye/Limbeck, that was a really amazing time for the music in my life
Wait are Hellogoodbye really considered a part of that scene? I would never have guessed that. Did you ever listen to Anathello or whatever A Dost's band was? I feel bad he always gets the shaft on his pre-fun. work. I also know he has that Columbus album Such a goof.
Hellogoodbye totally were, but ONLY after Would It Kill You. When they upgraded their sound, they definitely were a part of it. YES I fucking love Anathallo also. Floating World is near perfection, AbsolutePunk went fucking apeshit for that album and it still holds up. The followup album had a botched release, but it also has some really amazing stuff on it
