It isn’t really about this move specifically but David and Ben and Marie are like this movie isn’t good and he’s just repeatedly like NO you don’t UNDERSTAND it’s a war crime actually and they’re just repeatedly like calm down dude he’s just being a weirdo
Didn’t listen to the episode because I haven’t seen the film yet but griffin is kinda always annoying. He takes 50 words to make a 5 word point.
I don’t mind that part honestly. It’s just part of the pod. He’s just kind of being a prick this episode and I haven’t seen the movie so it’s not bc I disagree with him necessarily
Went back to some old episodes recently, and it gave me some newfound appreciation for the podcast, because 1) they were both much worse at this whole thing 8-10 years ago, and 2) Griffin was way, way more annoying back then.
I listened to a bunch of old episodes in 2024 when my work was hacked. Don’t remember it being that much different.
He talked about this a bit recently, I think on a Patreon episode? He said he intentionally pitched up his voice when they started so he would sound more distinct from David. I'm still working through the back catalog in order when I have nothing else to listen to. I'm on the Carpenter miniseries now and it's still sometimes jarring to jump back and forth.
It's still wild to go back to the first year of the show when the whole bit was that it was exclusively about The Phantom Menace. How far they've come
They had a lot more recurring bits back then (all Ben's various aliases, for instance) that get extremely annoying very fast.
I like griffin but the most annoying part of the show is when he discusses one little scene or detail of a scene for 20 minutes straight and everyone else is clearly ready to move on but he just keeps on going.
i actually never listened to the A Clockwork Orange episode (haven't seen it) where David finally kills the Britain bit but i'm glad it's dead
They’ve definitely improved in the sense that David knows when to really put his foot down when Griffin is too deep in the weeds with a bit or a take.
there was an absolutely insane reddit post a few weeks back with someone complaining about david's like, commitment to the podcast because he was talking a lot about needing to end episodes to take care of his kids? and that person rightfully got told off and then they made their own weird ass subreddit called like "BlankiesTruth" or something where they just complained about being silenced lol
