I went with Garland in part because I just like his movies more, but also because Dredd is one of those “David gave it five stars and no one else seems to like it much” movies, and those takes are always fun.
im glad because most of apatows movies suck and i would hate to make griff and dave watch king of staten island or whatever the nextflix one was also bc garland is good
I feel like so many people in my circles have turned on Garland after Men (Which I still haven't seen) and seeming Civil War based on the trailers. Even if those two movies are utter trash, he's still got 28 Days Later, Dredd and Annihilation so he's good by me
I'm sad james wan lost. That would have made for super fun discussions. Now wishing David lynch takes it this year
I’m pretty bummed how hard Apatow is getting crushed by Garland today. Apatow is perfect for this pod
Would have loved Apatow, I don’t always love “bad movie” episodes… but man The Bubble is so unbelievably bad it’s truly baffling. Even if you didn’t like This Is 40 or King of Staten Island, they are both unquestionably an Apatow film. The Bubble has like 10% Apatow, and that’s just cause he still insisted on casting his wife and daughter in it.
I voted for Apatow. Even though he fell off after the first half of Funny People, his movies outside of “The Bubble” still had some kind of merit. And it would just be a fun discussion of him shaping the last giant boom of cinematic comedy. But alas.
I want them to do an episode on The Bubble strictly so I can justify the two hours of my life I wasted watching The Bubble
Craven is probably my second choice to win after Oz/Henson. Tough week to go up against Glazer though.
I can't believe this matchup is between a guy who has 20 movies to his name, some of which are classics and others are charmingly bad, and a guy who has 4 films, and its still close Disclaimer I've only seen Under The Skin from Glazer, but it seems premature to even put him in the bracket
Unless you were born after Scream those are fighting words. I do really need to get to Glazer sometime soon tho
I like Glazer, but would any of his movies be considered blank checks? They’re all made on pretty limited budgets. Either way, glad Craven moves on and I hope Henson/Oz takes it all.
he theoretically was given a "blank check" respectively to make sexy beast off the basis of some successful music videos to begin with also under the skin is a blank check movie on paper even if it isn't in reality
yeah that’s fair. i think a longer series or even a series from a director with bigger misses would be more entertaining but i also feel like glazer’s other films are relatively under discussed
Oz / Henson losing to Linklater by a dozen votes would be brutal. Hoping they pull ahead at the last minute.
