I’ve been wondering this myself ever since I saw people in the Discord saying Raimi was coming. I wouldn’t even know how to watch it.
I'm still catching up. Watched Invisible Man last night and it wasn't terrible, not good either though I'll probably have to buy ITMOM but that's ok it rules
I've been using my local library ever since I started keeping up with this show every week. There's been very, very few times where a movie has either not bee on streaming somewhere or not been available at the library. I think Ishtar and The Heartbreak Kid were the most recent examples.
Yeah I've got two library cards and neither have much Carpenter. They're for smaller towns though. Maybe I can get a Dallas card
I was having a lot of fun with the lore and the vamps themselves, but the movie never makes it clear if it’s winking at you, because if it’s not it felt deeply misogynistic and James Wood’s character is soooo cruel and unlikeable.
Yeah I think Woods was fundamentally wrong for this role but other than that I thought Vampires was surprisingly good.
Yeah this is why he’s wrong for the role. I think the movie IS winking at you but Woods isn’t capable of communicating that properly. This was begging for an actor who could give that role almost like a dialed-back version of Jack Burton performance.
I totally agree that they are wrong for their roles but neither of them are bad enough to take me out of the movie.
I found it really hard to get past the James Woods of it all, but Vampires looks surprisingly good. I kind of assumed Carpenter would be phoning it in by now but so far it seems like he’s still all in on his movies.
Just looked up The Ward and saw that it was only rentable on YouTube, so I searched it on there and someone uploaded the full movie. It’s the very first hit, before it even gives you the option to rent. So there’s that for anyone wanting to watch it
I think I could stomach Ghost of Mars for the camp and cultural cache, but I don't think I can do The Ward.
I definitely watched The Ward like ten years ago on Comcast onDemand. I remember it being a totally forgettable, generic horror movie, but I don't remember it being offensively bad or anything.
The Ward was perfectly fine. There’s not really any of Carpenters trademarks or personality in it, but he’s made far worse films. Besides I found it pretty bold to blatantly steal the twist from a movie that came out 8 years prior. I saw David say the same thing but this is absolutely just Identity, but in a mental hospital instead of a hotel
Probably going to watch Ghosts of Mars on Friday, not really looking forward to it based on reputation
I used to be a pretty big fan of Jonah and Dave Schilling. But something about them together is grating.
