Mike Judge vs. Danny DeVito is tough Although a Judge miniseries would really only be four films right (Beavis & Butthead Do America, Office Space, Idiocracy, Extract)?
The amount of comments ranging from “who the fuck is [older director]” to “this isn’t the type of podcast Blank Check is” make me convinced that they need to start doing a pre-1970 director once a year at this point.
I think some of the problem is kind of baked in to the premise of the podcast itself. Like defining your podcast as one where you are mainly concerned with a specific kind of director, one who got a proverbial "blank check" thanks to early career success, is going to open you up to people claiming "X director never got a blank check, why are you covering them". Format sticklers are always going to be a thing.
Yeah my concern is more the “covering older directors doesn’t fit the show” than the semantics over whether someone got a blank check or not.
I also think they are way too locked in to the whole blank check idea. Just make it a show about directors filmographies!
this already IS a podcast about filmographies*! *directors who have massive success, early on in their careers, and are given a series of blank checks to make whatever crazy passion projects they want. Sometimes those checks clear, and sometimes they bounce baybee.
The only problem I see with committing to doing a pre-New Hollywood director per year is that they're already really trying to mix it up in terms of race and gender, and they're already doing basically one animator a year -- an overwhelming majority of which are white + male -- and the MM winner each year -- have all been white so far -- and adding in a new yearly slot that is also likely going to be overwhelmingly white and male isn't going to leave them a lot of wiggle room each year.
My face when the March madness ep is 1.5 hours long: :D My face when david/chip was on even though they said he wouldn’t be: :DD
Welp, Griffin announced at the end of the March Madness episode that Joe Dante will be a guest on an episode if they ever cover him so guess we have our winner
What is there even to talk about after a couple? I love his movies but they’re all more or less the same.
If they did Stone, the JFK episode would be the first episode in years that was shorter than the movie being discussed
Truly can’t believe Malick beat Brest Looks like Twilight is gonna edge out Muppets as well! Wild day!
