Again, Don’t Tell Me It’s Over is a song 8th grade me thought was awesome. 31 year old me now reads these lines and just groans...even worse when you realize a 26 year old Tom Delonge wrote:

“Most girls most do mean trouble, because they are rarely honest

What's with the jokes, all the routines they play
Screw with my head, never cave till they get their way
Guys like to run, chicks like to yell you see
Guys hate to fight, girls think its therapy”

 

The lyrics are hot garbage, no doubt, but the song itself is catchy as shit. Blink are one of those bands I rarely even pay attention to their lyrics because most of it is simple, throwaway drivel.

 

If anyone is looking at blink for deep lyrics, you are doing music wrong

I'm not looking for deep lyrics from Blink - it's the blatant shit that we didn't recognize as a bit problematic back in the late-90s / early-2000s that I just can't excuse anymore.

And since the whole purpose of this exercise is to look back at each album and judge each song, songs like Dumpweed and Don't Tell Me It's Over deserve to be judged through 2019 lenses.

The Every Time I Look For You bridge may very well be the first time I ever experienced anything remotely resembling a “breakdown” from a band that didn’t already make, like, inherently heavy music haha. When the whole band came in following that solo guitar track I felt like I could do anything

 

If the whole song was as good as that one part I would be totally onboard but I've never really liked the chorus of that song that much and the verses are just fine imo. Definitely agree that one single part of the song is a highlight of TOYPAJ though lol

 

Online Songs isn’t that great. It’s fine. But the fact that it won last time? Oof. I’ll gladly vote against it here, esp since EILFY is a solid track.

 

It feels like a filler song to me along with Shut Up and GMOGR. I mean if people really like it that much that’s cool but I don’t know, I guess I don’t get the love for it. Kind of similar to how I feel about Not Now.
