I'm really trying to give Vacancy a fair shot, but I'm still not connecting with the majority of the songs. In any case... It Doesn’t Make it True (I like both of these songs, but this one is a bit more memorable to me) Pretty Vacant (I think this is one of the better songs on the album) Mary (This is a well-written song, but I don't think I'm on board with it winning the overall Bayside bracket) I’ve Been Dead All Day (I enjoy both of these, but I think this song is a bit more interesting)
Two Letters - 6 It Doesn’t Make it True - 4 Enemy Lines - 5 Pretty Vacant - 5 Not Fair - 0 Mary - 10 It’s Not as Depressing as it Sounds - 3 I’ve Been Dead All Day - 7
Two letters was about to vote the other way but “I’m not prepared to call you just a friend” bit is so good. Pretty vacant enemy lines is good but pretty vacant is one of the highlights in my opinion. Not fair Mary is a fine song or whatever, but I like the vibe they go for on Not Fair I’ve been dead all day this one is the easiest one for sure. dead all day is so good.
Two Letters vs. It Doesn’t Make it True This is just a case of two songs being fantastic, but I have to choose one over the other. Enemy Lines vs. Pretty Vacant See above. Not Fair vs. Mary I mean, Bayside wrote a Bruce Springsteen song. And it works. Mary is such a damn good song. It’s Not as Depressing as it Sounds vs. I’ve Been Dead All Day The verse is textbook Bayside.
Two Letters - 9 It Doesn’t Make it True - 4 Enemy Lines - 6 Pretty Vacant - 7 Not Fair - 2 Mary - 11 It’s Not as Depressing as it Sounds - 3 I’ve Been Dead All Day - 10
The only good thing about "The Ghost" losing last round is that this first matchup is now exceedingly easy. Two Letters Pretty Vacant Mary I’ve Been Dead All Day
Two Letters - 10 It Doesn’t Make it True - 6 Enemy Lines - 7 Pretty Vacant - 9 Not Fair - 2 Mary - 14 It’s Not as Depressing as it Sounds - 3 I’ve Been Dead All Day - 13 Only 5 voters left @Joe4th @Pickles312 @disambigujason @choke @latortuga. The next few votes will tell the story for the first two matchups.
Two Letters Enemy Lines Not Fair I've Been Dead All Day Would have voted for Ghost last round, but it doesn't really matter. Agreed with bachna that Vacancy has a lot of songs that don't work great for me. They feel very forced at times to fit into a certain mold. The bridges especially feel extremely abrupt and out of place in a lot of the songs. Like they're just sandwiched in there. I mentioned at the beginning that I think S&C did song form variation the best, and I think Vacancy is a real display of how they improved in so many areas, but regressed in one critical one imo. Also don't think mary deserves to win the bracket. It's a nice, standard ballad, but pretty generic I think.
Apologies to everyone that the bracket has been moving along a little slower these last few rounds. We’ve had some really close matchups, so I’ve been extending the round times to allow everyone a chance to get their votes in.
Objectivist On Fire has been stuck in my head for days thanks to this bracket. The "Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh" part is so catchy.
