Full disclosure: I fucked up the bracket generator (please don’t hate me, this is the first time I’ve ran one of these) for this round, so... here are our options:

1. Song with the most votes from this round gets a bye to the finals to face the winner of the next round after this one

OR

2. Loser that gets the most votes in this round gets a shot at redemption in the semis.

I vote for the redemption shot.

 

I think that Just Enough is clearly receiving the most votes this round, so I say let us choose between the winners of Guardrail/Alcohol and Masterpiece/Michelangelo and the winner of that goes against Just Enough.

 

I’m good either route. Doesn’t matter to me. I guess we’ll just go with whichever the majority want.

 

I think redemption makes the most sense for a format with random matchups.

Just Enough to Love You vs. Phone Call from Poland was the toughest one for me this round. Alcohol and Alter Boys and Masterpiece are my two favorites on this album probably.

Really tough decision here. Guardrail's guitar work in the intro and bridge is just too good for me to vote it out here, even though I also love Alcohol and Altar Boys.

Just Enough to Love You vs. Phone Call from Poland

No love for Poland in this thread, but I absolutely love the song. One thing I really appreciate about this album compared to their later albums is that the songs are not as formulaic. Everything isn't verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo/bridge-chorus. On Vacancy that structure almost seems forced in at times. Not here. Poland is the epitome of that to me. A bunch of different verses/bridges/instrumentals/solos coming into play and yet it flows really well. Doesn't feel choppy at all. And I love the recurring riff.

Masterpiece vs. Talking of Michelangelo

Another really tough matchup for me here. Just like the first round, Masterpiece is put up against a song that just has a completely different mood (maybe that speaks to it's unique tone within the album). I'd be fine with either song moving on to be honest, but since I picked HTFE over Michelangelo in a tossup in the first round, I'll give it the nod here.

 

I’m with you on the Phone Call love. One of my favorite songs on the record!
