There really isn’t anything I can pinpoint about what makes What and What Not special to me, but I love that song, and I think it’s one of the more underrated cuts in their catalogue. There’s something about Anthony’s delivery in the verses that just grabs me every time.

Are we doing an acoustic bracket? I had planned for all the regular albums plus a miscellaneous/extras round for b-sides and whatnot, but I wasn’t going to do the acoustic records. Do people want to? Are they necessary since all but Winter/It Don’t Exist/Paternal Raversal (which will be in the extras round) are the same songs, albeit different renditions, that we’ve already covered.

I’m up for whatever, doesn’t matter to me. I’m just curious what people think.

 

I assumed we would leave out any alternate versions (live/acoustic) and any covers.

 

And I was all set to take Beautiful Girls from Punk Goes Pop 2 to the finals

Not doing an acoustic bracket makes sense but it is a shame for Winter, which deserves all the props

 

This was my thinking as well, but then someone brought up early on that Megan is a fan favorite, so I’m not exactly sure what route to take there.

 

No worries, Winter will go in the miscellaneous bracket with the b-sides.

 

In my view voting on a cover is like saying Smoking Popes wrote the one of the best Bayside songs. it just doesn't mesh with the point of the bracket.

Why waste our time on the B-sides when we all know Winter is going to win?

That’s a good point. The more I think about it, you’re right, it doesn’t make sense to include any of the covers. We’ll skip those and all acoustic/live renditions.

 

I'm good with it either way. Alternate versions of songs don't usually get very far in the finals anyway. But, acoustic bracket or no, I Think I'll Be OK is still my favorite acoustic song of theirs that isn't Winter

 

This is the first bracket where I struggle because I don't like either of the songs too much, rather than liking them both a lot. The album is fine and has some great parts, but it's probably my least favorite overall. I wonder if that'd be different if they'd had more time to make it. I know that Anthony has said he'd change parts, but I'm not sure if that would be leaning more into the things I like less or refining some of the weaknesses.
