Blame it on Bad Luck vs. They Looked Like Strong Hands Both are terrific songs. Gotta give it to Blame though for the reasons I stated last round.
Based on the number of votes we’ve had in previous rounds, that will probably do it for this one, but I will leave this open until 1pm EST as originally stated regardless.
Got here late so I wasn't able to vote on all of S&C and most of S/T, but question... Wouldn't results be more accurate in a survivor model? Like you start with the entire album and then one song gets voted off until one remains? That way XYZ song doesn't get jobbed with a tough draw/matchup? That being said this model does create spontaneity which is great.
That method would probably be more accurate, but I also think it would take a lot longer to complete.
That model would definitely be ideal for accuracy’s sake, but with a band like Bayside who has a fairly large discography, the big issue would be time. If they only had 2 or 3 records, that route would be a lot more feasible, but I think with 7 full lengths + extras, you’d likely see some people get burnt out and disappear halfway.
That’s all she wrote! Congratulations to Blame it on Bad Luck for winning the S/T bracket. Final scores: Blame it on Bad Luck - 10 They Looked Like Strong Hands - 6
THE WALKING WOUNDED ROUND 1 ___________ Carry On vs. A Rite of Passage I And I vs. (Pop)Ular SciencE Dear Your Holiness vs. Head on a Plate The Walking Wounded vs. Thankfully
A Rite of Passage I and I Dear Your Holiness (these two would get matched against each other round one, of course) The Walking Wounded
Carry On I And I Dear Your Holiness The Walking Wounded Album is front loaded for me but I think is one of the most sonically interesting Bayside albums. Showed huge growth from the S/T
Still the band's best album. I don't know that there's a better 3-song stretch in their entire catalogue than Head On a Plate-Dear Your Holiness-Landing Feet First.
It's up there for me as well, and is probably the best song on this album, so naturally it'll lose to like Carry On or something next round.
Carry On - 4 A Rite of Passage - 2 I And I - 4 (Pop)Ular SciencE - 2 Dear Your Holiness - 4 Head on a Plate - 2 The Walking Wounded - 5 Thankfully - 1
catchin up on what ive missed - i definitely think Devotion is one of their most overrated songs but I fully expected it to be in the final matchup haha
Carry On vs. A Rite of Passage A Rite or Passage is one of the more forgettable Bayside songs for me. Just thinking about the song it’s hard for me to remember most of it. The video for Carry On is really entertaining, so it gets my vote. I And I vs. (Pop)Ular SciencE I’m really bummed that Popular ended up against I and I, because it’s one of the most unique songs the band has written. The bridge on Popular is fantastic, and everything Anthony sings about I find so true. That being said, I and I hits me (and so many people) in such a huge emotional level. It’s a song that has helped me get through so much, especially during my first year of college when TWW first came out. Dear Your Holiness vs. Head on a Plate Head on a Plate is one of my least favorite songs. Possibly THE least favorite. Easy choice for me. The Walking Wounded vs. Thankfully Thankfully is your straightforward middle of the album Bayside song. It’s a great song, but it’s a bit formulaic. TWW kicks off the album perfectly, and Vinnie’s guest spot on the bridge is fantastic. Also, who thought having horns on a Bayside track would sound so good?
