Blame it on bad luck I love both of these songs, possibly my two favorite from the album. However, the bridge in ‘Blame it on Bad Luck’ is too good to be ignored. Some of my favorite Bayside lyrics ever. I’d give anything I have to walk a day in my old shoes. Wondering what my first smoke would be like, my first fuck, my next fuck up, the next band that would change my life.
They Looked Like Strong Hands. If Masterpiece and Blame both win this is a super predictable bracket so far. Exactly what I'd expect from Bayside fans lol
I can only imagine lol I'm already guessing now that The Walking Wounded or Duality wins the next round. Maybe we will get some surprises with the later albums, but its always bugged me that Bayside fans like the same 3 songs from the Self Titled. Its all Devotion, Montauk and Blame it On Bad Luck. I could easily go without seeing any of these songs live ever again as I've seen then 15 times and they hardly ever surprise me because fans don't respond to a lot of their deep cuts which blows.
I realized recently that they put Blame It on Bad Luck and Devotion on BOTH acoustic albums. Like of all the songs they've written since 2006 we can't get an acoustic version of something else? So weird. Still like the songs though.
I’m over a lot of the songs on S/T and Wounded live honestly Shudder is also my favorite Bayside album so I’m in the minority on that too lol
Seen them 25+ times and the lack of setlist variety has taken them off a “must see” act for me in the last year or two. It’s just not worth it. To your last point, it is a bummer. I think it was the band’s 15th Anniversary tour when I FINALLY got Talking of Michelangelo and I swear everyone just stood like a Michelangelo statue.
Yeah I’ve seen Bayside 15 or so times and they’re just beyond predictable. I view ST and TWW as their best records but I’m kind of so over them at this point due to their live shows just being most of that material. And yeah, the whole including D&D and Bad Luck on BOTH acoustic albums was super bizarre. Kind of a slap in the face to the rest of their catelog.
I agree that I'd like to hear a little more variety in their live sets, particularly more Killing Time and Vacancy. With that said, it's hard to blame them for wanting to play songs that are their most popular and still great songs/fun live (and their most recent non-acoustic shows are close to 50-50 between the first three and last four albums, maybe a little weighted towards the new stuff overall). I definitely wouldn't be made to hear them go more the Modest Mouse route, with wildly different sets every night. They've got the discography to do it.
I actually spoke to Anthony about this before, and he justified their inclusion on both albums by saying the new album is full band acoustic and that makes them completely different. Thought that was kind of a weak excuse. I would have much rather had different songs take their places.
I always see them when they come to NY, but yeah, I definitely don't need to hear all 4 of Montauk, D&D, Bad Luck, and Strong Hands every single time. The most egregious was when I saw them open for NFG last may and literally the last 4 songs out of the 10 total they played were those four. I love those songs, but they aren't my favorites in their discography. However, I do love the version of Bad Luck on Acoustic Vol. 2, so I'm not that mad about getting 2 acoustic versions of it
Both are great but Strong Hands takes it for me. Also yeah I haven’t seen Bayside in yeeeears because even though I love all of these songs I cannot handle seeing them played live anymore. Way over it.
