I’m really happy Roger finally got his Oscar, he should of won it before but what a hell of a movie to win it for.
I’d say it’s equal to 2049 at the least. Both films address two different subjects within the same field, the definition and ethics of synthetic human beings. Both have their strengths and weakness but together, they represent the best sci fi can give.
netflix gave me a free month of DVD’s, so I finally saw this and did it back to back with the original. this was great, however, Netflix didn’t say which version of the film i’d be getting, so I assumed either the Theatrical or original home release version, but got the Working Cut. it looks like Netflix got the collectors edition with all the versions on a different disc, and just shuffles them out to people, which is a bit disappointing. my disc literally said “Disc 5, Working Cut” which would have been fine had I been expecting it, but I felt like I was missing out (especially remembering the bits and pieces of the Final Cut I had seen in college).
It’s the only way to get most of the good movies from them now that they have moved to more originals and shows. I still need to get FilmStruck for my Criterion fix, but I love to still get the DVDs.
yeah, it feels so weird, but Netflix has been giving me a free trial month once a year for the last few years, and I always say "why not?" and take advantage of it. might actually stick with it this time, and ditch streaming since I now get Hulu through Spotify Premium.
I pretty much owe my love of films to the Netflix mailed DVDs when I was in college in like 2004/2005. My roommates and I pretty much went down the IMDB Top 250 and eventually rented most of them.
What are some of your favorites? Netflix DVDs is what led to me being able to watch The Office for the first time, so that's super tight of them.
Netflix allowed me to watch so many foreign films and old arthouse classics that I could never find anywhere else. Not to mention all the shows I blew through. And I’ll never forget how excited I was when my Wii disc came so I could stream things on TV. So crazy to think about how that wasn’t THAT long ago and yet seems ancient.
My favorite movies? My list has surely changed over the past 12-13 years but here's where I'm at right now: Memento, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, The Prestige, Eternal Sunshine, In Bruges, The Assassination of Jesse James, American History X, Inglorious Basterds, Blue Valentine, The Departed, No Country for Old Men, Drive, 500 Days of Summer, Lord of War, Seven Psychopaths I don't even remember what the IMDB Top 250 looked like back in 2004/2005 (obviously, many of the movies I listed above were released during or after my time in college) but that list changes wildly every so often. Around that same time, I started collecting DVDs. I have about 500 (haven't bought one in probably 6 or 7 years) but I would go to used CD/DVD stores and by like 15 at a time for $40 or $50. At one point, I probably owned almost half of the IMDB Top 250. My friends and I would always count who had more in the Top 250 like it was some competition.
“Blade Runner 2049,” A Cult Hit with Disappointing Box Office, Headed to TV as Series Please let this happen as an HBO show with Gosling and Ford returning, at least.
I am so down for that. I somehow doubt they'd be able to get Ford for TV, but he does seem to be more enthusiastic to Blade Runner than some of his other franchise part.
I bet Netflix/whoever has enough funds available to convince him to join, but depends more on whether Ford has the energy and interest in returning again to the character
