Why do people all of a sudden not understand that literally every movie at one point had a longer (and almost certainly worse) cut?
This was a cool read. Writer Michael Green's journal entries throughout the production of the movie. Extremes of Light and Temperature: Notes From the Set of 'Blade Runner 2049' Couple VFX reels.
I know that there were larger plot threads that weren't resolved and could objectively point to a sequel. But I personally would rather do without. I enjoyed how much this felt like a character study and in my mind that was wrapped up beautifully.
There’s absolutely no need for another one, much less one with heavier involvement from Scott. They tempted fate with 2049 and miraculously turned out an excellent film, let’s leave well enough alone now.
Not gonna lie I personally love Prometheus, and enjoyed Alien:Covenant. Though yeah I don’t want a sequel unless Denis is directing.
I saw Prometheus when it first came out and liked it, but Alien covenant had my hyped for a return to alien horror and we got some bullshit about Fassbender playing a flute with himself
i really don’t get it. i’d imagine part of it has to be the box office shit, which is dumb as hell. maybe lesser-so because it’s deemed a “less serious” movie than arrival. also dumb.
Probably because it’s hard sci-fi and the Academy has a bias against it. But he was just nominated last year at least.
I think the Academy probably incorrectly assumes that a big-budget sequel isn't "high-minded" enough for an award nod, whereas Arrival was more obviously cerebral, not a sequel, more successful financially, and based on a highly-regarded story. But then again George Miller was nominated for Mad Max: Fury Road so who the hell knows.
I say Deakins 100% gets in. He got in for Skyfall, after all. Whether he wins or not is another story. He sure as hell deserves it.
