Despite the disappointing earnings, I think this could end up #1 again next week. There's not much in terms of big blockbusters coming out next weekend.
It’ll be surpassed by Happy Death Day, I’m sure of it. This’ll drop about 40-50% and Death Day is a pg-13 slasher coming out on Friday the 13th
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but I’m really glad they didn’t try and force something in this movie to try and match the “tears in rain” soliloquy in the original.
I dunno about Happy Death Day doing well, it looks fucking bad and no rating or release date is going to save it.
I imagine the foreign markets are going to be much better for the film, is it going to be released in China?
This is the 1st I've heard of that movie haha. But sadly, based on the synopsis, you're probably right.
Perhaps I’ll eat my hat but I say this with 99% certainty. Typical box office drop off is about 40% and this made just over 30m so we’re probably looking at 17-18m next weekend and I’m positive Death Day will make more than that. I only say this with such confidence cause I used to manage a theatre and had to pay attention to this mumbo jumbo
Honestly, if Happy Death Day plays it for laughs/absurdity, I'm fucking down for it. The trailers don't seem like it will though
I said that movie looked terrible in the horror thread, and then everyone said how they can’t wait to see it....
It doesn't. But when a movie comes out and it's almost all overwhelmingly positive reviews and suddenly a bunch of people are like "this is nowhere near as good as people say..." than yeah, whatever. It happens A LOT, but there are obviously exceptions. We'll see.
Seeing this tomorrow 11 am. Going to late morning/early afternoon movies alone is one of my favorite things to do ever. Side note, going to the IMAX theater in a furniture store (lol) I worked at from 16-23, where I had countless relationships, intimate and not, and the place where I met my current girlfriend of 7 years. So I am even more excited about this.
I know this wasn't your main point at all, but humor me... I absolutely think nostalgia is a PART of the preference for the originals, but they're also just much better movies in so many ways to me and many others. I'm 22, was 4 years old when Episode 1 came out. The prequels are the only Star Wars movies I saw in theaters. I didn't see the OT until I was a bit older, but I absolutely think they are vastly superior as blockbuster movies, and can barely stand to watch the prequels nowadays. I know a lot of fans my age with the same viewpoint.
Anyway this was amazing, I'm thoroughly blown away. Like others said, I'm really glad that they kept the possibility of Deckard being a replicant open-ended. I really didn't think it felt too long, the length was absolutely justified by how much time was spent developing this universe and the characters within it.
Well yes, that is the majority opinion and one I agree with. However, nostalgia leads to people being overcritical of the prequels and not critical enough of the original films. You are also at least partially influenced by the overwhelming conventional wisdom that the original films are better; we see this in similar long-running series like James Bond. There is a trend, though, of younger people preferring the prequels. The number will get larger as time goes on, and then you will have another group of people who prefer the new films. It will be interesting to see where it goes, as the farther time moves forward the harder it will be to convince a teenager to watch such an old film.
Jesus Christ this was fantastic. The visuals of the world, the soundtrack, Rylan Gosling and his coat. It was all I wanted out of it and more.
I need that coat. I legitimately have a sweater that is almost exactly like the one he’s wearing throughout the majority of the film, but that coat is incredible.
I'm sure you could find a long leather coat with shearling lining. It's just probably just gonna cost you 2k+ easily.
Good news! The coat isn’t actually shearling because, according to Denis, in this dystopia animals in large scale are hard to come by Ryan Gosling’s amazing shearling coat in “Blade Runner 2049” is a replicant, too
