I interpreted that he died, but it could also be taken as the replicant inside him died. He's witnessed his miracle
Also was it kind of implied that the members of that resistance had all been implanted with child's memories and that's how they found each other? When the leader says "we all wish it was us" or whatever I started thinking that she'd been helping recruit replicants using her own memories. This is probably way off base it was just a thought I had during that scene.
I've read that so much and I completely disagree. She said that as in we've all dreamed of being the one but not in a literal sense, like the way we dream of being actors or musicians. It's obvious considering she said it and she was there for the birth
I found that the relationship between K and Koi was really interesting, like just the concept of two AIs developing feelings and attachments as humans would.
Easily my favorite movie of the year. I was pissed when it ended because I had heard people talk about how long it is and assumed I had another hour to go. And I was ready for that hour. So much to unpack.
Also, I like how they kept the ambiguity of Deckard being a Replicant or not, I was so worried they were going to make him a human with the child business but that bit with his alleged true purpose in the original makes the mystery more intriguing.
I hope I never forget how I felt during that fight scene at the end by the ocean at night. The action wasn't even that different/impressive (it was still very very good) but god damn did it look good. The lightning, wondering if K/Joe was going to let Deckard drown. Fuck!
Wow I LOVED that. So refreshingly low key compared to many modern sci-fi's. That ending was just beautiful.
I'm really glad this kept the slow burn of the original. I figured it would become a full blown action movie, because that's not really Villeneuve's style, but I was still relieved at the way it was executed. Definitely not as noir inspired, but this was really great. Only thing that bugs me I feel like with the set up of the replicant army that they'll be tempted to make a bad sequel based on that. The acting was superb all around. I hate Jared Leto the person, but I thought he was a good choice for this role though I really wanted his character to die. I think this thing I've seen Ana de Armas and Sylvia Hoeks in, both were outstanding. I got really excited when I saw Wood Harris. I'm bummed he barely had a role.
I didn't mind Jared Leto in this, but it really is a shame that we didn't get to see David Bowie in that role instead...
I think the subtlety of the role served leto well. In his more over-the-top roles he can be a bit grating but I felt he was well used here.
