You will still have to pay premium to watch most of these in the UK. There doesn't seem to be a plan for them to be on any other streaming services over here yet, so you'll still have to pay premium for them.
I do hope though when things are back to normal they come up with a better system. I much prefer to watch movies at home so I love this new model, but I’m not sure how much I would shell out on the regular for something like a Mortal Kombat. There are definitely IPs I would pay for (Bond, Batman, Star Wars) but most stuff I would probably just wait for.
I don’t know why HBO Max isn’t available over there, it’s probably rights issues regarding international distribution of the content.
The comparison I can make is I have a hard time buying wrestling PPVs because WWE network has conditioned me that those are free with my subscription to their network (now Peacock) and as a bonus I get access to their library of content. But the plan was always “get every PPV”. I don’t mind Disney+ charging because it was never their intent to have blockbuster movies debut there. So of course they want to make some of those millions of dollars they put into the production back. HBOMax stumbled a bit out of the gate and them saying their release slate with debut simultaneously for free was definitely a tactic to increase subscribers. And I love what they are doing. I also wouldn’t be mad if they put a rental fee for those new releases but bless them for not doing it. That being said, I already saw somewhere that they will not be debuting new movies for free in 2022.(could be just a rumor) I think that’s just going to upset a lot of people that got used to getting it for free and those people are more likely to wait and not pay or pirate. (Like me with wrestling ppvs) Obviously the value here is person to person. So spend how you want.
We did it for a month to watch the Harry + Megan interview and the Grammys. The movie content is REALLY lacking, but if you're into older classic TV shows it's pretty stacked.
I did the 50% off for a year. The selection isn't great but it's allowing me to finally watch Detroiters. Hoping the selection improves in the coming months
My fiancé wants it for Ru Paul but we otherwise can't think of anything else on there that we'd actually watch, so I'm hesitant to subscribe
This only thing I dislike is that most microwave popcorn just isn’t as good as cinema popcorn. That’s where I lose.
I just melt some butter and pour it over the popcorn for a true movie experience. Mixing some cinnamon and sugar into the butter is also delicious
Yep, I just throw 3 table spoons in a mug in the microwave. It ain't healthy, but it's a nice treat every once in a while
I've just accepted I'll never be able to recreate movie theater popcorn at home with any accuracy and just get microwave bags of salted popcorn with no butter. That's the most satisfying to have at home imo.
I currently just eat non-buttered microwave popcorn with lime seasoning on it. It accomplishes the task of allowing me to snack during a movie, but it’s far from an experience.
I think popcorn kinda sucks now. They changed the slushie recipe over here too removing a ton of sugar so they taste whack now so I just brought shit from home anyway.
