HBO Max isn’t charging me $30 extra per new release on top of what I’m already paying for the service though.

Anyone paying $30 extra to access content on a streaming service they’re already paying a subscription for is getting gouged.

Disney+ is so cheap to begin with (even cheaper if you bundle it) that even if you spent $90 on all 3 premier access movies you still be paying the same monthly amount as HBO Max haha

  3. I pay 4 dollars a month for Disney Plus that’s barely anything

And like I and others have been saying over and over again, in addition to being a nonsensical markup of Disney+‘s subscription cost, it’s also gouging people who wouldn’t be spending $30+ at the movie theater under normal circumstances simply because that option isn’t currently available to them.

  5. I don’t care about that

I’m just saying HBO Max and Disney+ are doing the same thing

  7. You’re already paying the “nonsensical” markup with HBO by giving them $15 a month LOL

  8. Sorry for making this thread dumb over a bad movie

and it’s wild to me that you’re dying on the hill of defending Disney’s business practices

  10. I’m not defending it - I’m just saying that HBO max and all these streaming services are doing it - whether it’s an upfront monthly price or an additional cost you’re all paying the same

To me, it doesn't seem like anyone is defending it. Just understanding why they're doing it.

If this was all that was going on then it wouldn’t be such a big deal to say what Disney is doing is shitty and that they suck for being the only ones doing it. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO Max, none of these other services are doing it regardless of what they cost per month.

  13. Well that’s why they don’t do it - it’s already baked into the monthly cost

You would feel better if Disney just doubled it’s monthly cost to include these movies?

Netflix and Amazon all cost ~$8 per month just like Disney+. Hulu is a little less.

WB did technically do the same as Disney. Just not in the US. If you're in the UK, you still have to shell out to rent or buy WW1984. A lot of services like Hulu or HBO Max aren't available in a lot of other countries. WB have taken advantage of that, so probably not a great example.

I’ll probably just wait to see this regardless since she’s already dead and this has no impact on present MCU. Why they even bothered to make this movie at this point is beyond me.

  17. Netflix doesn’t cost around $8 a month - I mean I guess for the bare bones it does

(you can bundle Hulu Disney and ESPN together for $13 a month btw)

EDIT: you can get Netflix for 8.99 a month but nothing in HD and only can watch on one device at a time

drew you’ve already said multiple times in the past you don’t like going to theaters and will gladly pay to watch movies at home. that’s fine. you can do that. that doesn’t mean that paying an additional premium for movies on services you already pay a monthly subscription to isn’t gouging. it is.

Also HBO Max is putting up their entire 2021 slate for free on the service, which is way more movies than Disney+ is putting up for premiere access. So yeah it evens out if you only watch 3 movies but they’re putting out more big movies on their service, for no additional charge, so in the end you’re saving way more money with HBO Max than you are with Disney+.

If you’re a $30-per-theater-trip person and you want to see Judas & The Black Messiah, The Suicide Squad, Dune, The Matrix 4, Mortal Kombat, Godzilla vs. Kong, Space Jam 2, The Many Saints of Newark, and Those Who Wish Me Dead, that’s $270 vs. $180 for a year of HBO Max. For that same amount of movies, even if you have the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN bundle for $4.25 a month, the cost is $321.

  21. Yeah Verizon is dope for that

You could always torrent the movie if you don’t want to pay the $30 or wait for it to be part of Disney plus like 3 months after July 9th. Still ways to get it free on release day if you don’t want to shell out the money or wait until it goes free months later.

A better model would surely be (if they wanted to price it similar) 30 dollars just VOD and if you have a Disney+ account you could rent it through the service for say 15/20. Disney will always treat their content as premium whether it merits it or not. It is strange how they keep making the Pixar movies free though.

They should do a thing where if you stream a “Premiere Access” movie like Black Widow, then you’re locked into a subscription for two or three months. That would prevent people from signing up for a free trial and then immediately cancelling and they wouldn’t be gouging people who are already subscribers.
